Rogers 4250HD box for 99.99
Hi,
Did a search and didn't see this anywhere. Picked up a Rogers 4250HD box for 99.99 (while quantities last) at the Sony store in the Eaton's Center. There were two signs: 1 said the 4250hd was 99.99 and the other said the 3250hd was 99.99. I Asked the salesperson for the 4250 and got one. They had about 6 left (2 were open box) in their stockroom at around 3:00pm. I believe the PVR unit is selling for 299.99. No TV purchase necessary. I activated my box (took about 15-20 minutes) and it's working fine.

Just to be clear.
You still need to pay monthly for all these HD channels right?
Because I see these things sell for almost $500 and it's rediculous

LOL, these posts are hilarious.
1) If you already have HD cable, then you'll pay nothing extra, assuming you have the open coax hookup.
2) If you just have an SD box, then yes, you'll need to pay for the HD channel basics, and any extras you want, but will have HD channels for free if you subscribe to Movie Network, Sports Packs, etc.
3) If you have no digital box and just use basic cable to your TV, and you buy one of these for SD+HD, then get ready to open your wallet wide and let Rogers take a big bite.

Yes, you get all the major networks (NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, CTV, CBC, CITYTV, etc) in HD if you have digital cable. You don't pay any "HD" charge.
If you want additional channels in HD like TLC, Discovery, Showcase, etc, and want timeshifting on the major HD networks, there's a $8.95 "HD pack" available. If you don't want to pay this, you can still watch these channels in Standard Def.

iirc, i think you do need to pay for a digital service fee... if you had been using SD terminal and now buys an HD terminal - for $3. But but, my parents are claiming that the HD stb produces better SD results, judging from ch.36... the crappiest SD of all channels...

no, installation should be free what so ever - even if they are asking for a fee, you shouldn't need much effort to get that waived. It has been free when i jump from SD to HD, it has been free when I add an additional retail HD stb. Installation is just like... plugging in the cable. Unless you are having signal problems and need a technician to look at the wires, that service has ALSO been free for me as well.Last edited by eeto; Nov 22nd, 2008 at 12:01 AM.

basically this is the most convoluted pricing i've ever seen.
digital service fee is for digital STBs whether HD or SD.
there is no HD fee although you have to subscribe to a certain package of SD channels in order to get the HD channels for free.
there are some HD channels that you have to pay for in order to get all ~40 HD channels rogers offers.
at the end of the day, you have to pay for a bunch of (SD) channels you won't be watching... (once you go HD you won't go back)... you can't cancel those SD channels because that's the only way you'll get those HD channels for "free". if you cancel those SD channels, the HD channels go with them. even though you have those SD channels, and the equivalent HD channels come for free, there are still some HD channels you have to pay for.
had i known all this ahead of time i may have chosen not to buy a HDTV. but once you have HDTV, you have to get HD... or else what was the point of spending ~$1000 on a new TV if you can't use it to its potential.
one last thing - just cuz your HDTV is 1080p doesn't mean you will see pictures in 1080p. Most channels are 720p and some are 1080i. No such thing as 1080p yet unless you do OTA._______________ITEMS FOR SALE
