I have this new Ignite 500u + SmartStream offer for $49.99/mth on MyRogers portal. Gonna chat with Rogers first to see if there's any hidden fees and whatnot before I take it.

As has often been reported... live chat agent couldn't do anything for me and offered $55 500U (I'm currently on $30). I told them that my account has a promotion on it for 500U + SmartStream for $49.99 and they told me that that is the better offer given what they can see tagged for my account...

Oh, just also wanted to ask... is anyone here using the SmartStream box?? Is it any good? Obviously Rogers would be monitoring usage somehow with the box, but I already have Android boxes. I have no need for it, but just wondering how they would be delivering it to customers... or ask us to pick it up in-store?

Got the same offer in my portal except its for $59.99/month. Rogers practicing good ol'fashioned price discrimination here.
Can someone explain what the benefit of smartstream is? We still need to pay separately for our netflix/amazon/disney subscriptions so what's Rogers value-add here specifically?

Yeah I'm not sure how the offer pricing works. For context, I was on $29.99/mth unlimited 500u up until mid-June 2020, then I went with an "offer" for $69.99 for the same 500u package. And now this SmartStream offer of $50/mth. So they're really just messing with existing customers.MoNaMi1 wrote: ↑ Got the same offer in my portal except its for $59.99/month. Honestly I don't think there's any value-add here... I wouldn't be surprised if they're using this box to monitor our Internet and streaming habits...

Have a question, where on the portal can you see the offer?MoNaMi1 wrote: ↑ Got the same offer in my portal except its for $59.99/month. Rogers practicing good ol'fashioned price discrimination here.

The value to Rogers is they can now count you as an "ignite tv" customer in their quarterly reports, which makes the decline in cable subscribers far less jarring to the markets than it is.
Same reason Bell keeps pushing $0 home phone lines on their customers

Haha yea, seems like it. Spoke with someone on chat just now and they said $59.99/month is the best they can do. Even after I told them that Bell Fibe is running a promotion offering $49.95/month for new customers (not bluffing, I have a brochure :p). I might just put in a cancellation request through Bell. That worked in the past lol.diav wrote: ↑ Yeah I'm not sure how the offer pricing works. That makes sense. Thank you.

I think someone also mentioned that with the SmartStream bundle you get a better router/modem (mesh)?

Could you send me a picture of the brochure? Might help me with the PM and negotiationMoNaMi1 wrote: ↑ Haha yea, seems like it. I am currently in a house in Whitby.
I have Gigabit internet, premier Tv and home phone with NA Long Distance. I own my digital boxes and PVR. I was paying $130 tax incl and promo ending July 16. I have been with Rogers for 35 years
I used Facebook Messenger today and agreed to the following remaining on Digital since I didn’t want to move to Ignite since I have 3rd party home alarm and didn’t want to deal with all the technical issues on my own without a Tech in the house:
500U internet
Premiere TV
Home phone ( 3 features and Canada wide LD)
For 12 months
For a price if $142 tax incl.
The Ignite offer was $141 for the same service level and included 3 ignite TV boxes.
Perhaps I will eventually move to Ignite when Techs can do all the work and deal with the inevitable technical issues and glitches, plus be able to install the new Ignite Home Phone equipment so that I can use my current home alarm equipment.
Hope this helps and I never had to submit a cancellation which I have always had to do previously. Although I am paying a bit more for a bit less, this was the most enjoyable and professional communication with Rogers in my life!
Hopefully this helps some of you

Currently on premier & gigabit for $121 tax in expiring in Sept. Called the winback number as I put in a cancellation last week, was offered premier and gigabit for 160 all in or gigabit only for $90 all in. Agent said to wait until mid-late august for back to school promos

The last few posts on pricing reinforce that they’re just increasing their margin across the board rather than offering specific package prices

Currently paying $50.84/month for 500U in L6B area.
Received the "special upgrade offer" for 500U + SmartStream for $69.99/month + tax
Big no thank you - considering the SmartStream is basically their version of an Android Box/Fire TV Stick/Roku.
Plus - rumor has it Google will be launching their fire stick competitor with remote very soon.

Yea, I think it's normal if you're using a wireless device. Have you tried a wired connection with a desktop or laptop? You usually get faster speeds through that.engman13 wrote: ↑ I had Rogers installed over the weekend, signed up for Ignite 150, I'm standing beside the modem and I'm getting no more than 75 Mbps DL and I'm using Rogers speed test application. Is this a normal amount of loss? Seems pretty bad to me. When the tech was here yesterday I was getting 200 Mbps
Though, the same thing happened to me when I was on the chat with the Rogers rep. I'm on 500u and I told her my speeds were like 27Mbps on my phone.. it was nothing closed to 500 Mbps. (Though on my laptop wired connection it was 400-500). She tinkered some stuff and eventually was able to get the speeds up to like 200 Mbps. She said you don't get those speeds on wireless devices... really?
Anyways, after I ended the chat the speed somehow dropped back down to 20-30 Mbps.. wtf.

That was probably me. Under the section of my offer for the 500u plan it mentions, "Upgraded Ignite Wifi gateway modem rental included". So it seems like they push the mesh modem as they do with their ignite tv service, so that you have coverage everywhere for the WiFi boxes.

Unfortunately my Mac doesn't have an ethernet connection so I have no way of testing a wired connection for speed. About 5 minutes after I wrote my last message I got 196 Mbps.knacks wrote: ↑ Yea, I think it's normal if you're using a wireless device. Have you tried a wired connection with a desktop or laptop? If you're getting that you likely have a Beanfield or similar in your building - so why even bother playing the price game with Rogers?
Heck, even Bell FTTH is hard to beat at the price they're offering you (full disclosure - I'm on that 300 for 49.99 plan right now)
