For once rogers made me happy.
Are you sure about this? I have the same deal ending in September and I doubt they'll just offer it again, although I'm paying another 12.50 for the HD box rental.

Just a question. Does anyone here have Digital Basic and Fairchild in Scarborough? I was told you have to get Digital Plus in order to add Fairchild by Rogers.
Supposedly there are people who were able to get it with Digital Basic but so far everyone I have spoken to at Rogers says the lowest digital package you can add Fairchild is Digital Plus.
My parents are paying $73/month for analog extended basic and Fairchild which is ridiculous. All they want is the Fairchild Channel but they have to add on some overpriced package with channels they don't watch.
Going to cancel cable if they can't do anything. Have already cancelled internet with them and moved to TekSavvy which is great!!!
Thanks

We're in the same boat. Trying to revise senior citizen parents' Rogers bill to basic cable + Chinese Fairchild channel (36 in Markham), and renew their 20% discounts on their high speed and retain free modem rental. The only package available to them is the extended basic, and at most 15% off internet and 15% off modem rental. Rogers won't budge lower than $98/month all in.
Thinking of cancelling internet and going to TekSavvy, and waiting until the cable contract is up, and looking for alternatives.
Let me know what you end up doing.... we may have to do the same.
Is Bell's TV service any better for seniors who want basic TV + chinese channels?

I've cancelled Rogers cable, as of Sept 11, and will probably be getting them a TVPad to stream channels from Hong Kong. My mother watches shows from Hong Kong so this will allow her to watch them live. She also has an iPad which she uses to watch her shows too on demand. I got my parents an Apple TV so she is able to stream from her iPad to the TV and watch on a bigger screen. With the TVPad she probably won't use the iPad as much but she will have to watch her shows in the morning due to us being 12 hours behind Hong Kong.
I don't know about Bell but they are basically overpriced like Rogers and you have to get a package to get Fairchild I think.
Get Teksavvy or Distributel. My parents have Teksavvy right now and I had Distributel when I lived in Barrie. They are both cheaper than Rogers and have unlimited data plans. I will be so glad to no longer have Rogers.

Attempted to renew my Extreme + and home phone. 2 years ago with Extreme and home phone i was paying $71. Upgraded to extreme + and home phone with 500 LD min. for $81. Discounts expired and bill went up to $108.
Called them up and they offered 20% off Extreme (downgrade from Extreme +) and that was it.
I told them to cancel.
Going to try Acanac despite the mixed reviews on the forum and use VOIP for free with them.
Bought a Moto 6121 and a OBI100.
BYE BYE ROGERS!!!!! Suddenly I feel free.

Congrats on being free of Roger$ : )
I think with Acanac you have to prepay the entire year in order to get the discount pricing for internet but I may be wrong. I would try TekSavvy and Distributel. I used Distributel and my parents use TekSavvy and they both have been great. I think Distributel is cheaper though.

I was going to go with TekSavvy and VOIP.ms, but Teksavvy is $7more a month (assuming you lock in for 1 year with Acanac) and VOIP.ms is $5.00 (flat rate)/mnth.
I hope Acanac doesn't let me down over the year. The good news is I will be saving $40 a month over Rogers!
Get this, Rogers won't let me disconnect my home phone until 30 days after I have disconnected my internet (Which also requires 30 days notice). However if I port the # I can cancel it anytime.
So I will be porting my # over to VOIP.ms and cancelling after a month.

I dumped Rogers Internet back in March and went to Acanac and I couldn't be happier. I no longer need to worry about what I download and whether I will exceed the monthly bandwidth cap.

Yup, suddenly got an email with the following on the NEW term. I didn't even call them even though it says I did.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
When I got this, I quickly went on to the online chat to confirm, and surely enough they confirmed the rate I had will before will be carried over. It a 1 year contract from Aug 2 2012 - Aug 1 2013. To cancel, it will cost $20 per month up to 200$. Doesn't make sence to cancel as the service is less than the cancellation fee. LOL

I can confirm you need Digital Plus to have Fairchild. Keep in mind, it's already a deal for us Scarborough people. People in North York and elsewhere in the province need to add 19.99 per month for fairchild, and thats only for one channel. So basic being 40 + Fairchild = 60 vs $ 57 in Scarborough for Fairchild and others like W Network, Much, CNN, BNN, Discovery. You may not use it, but its better than paying more for less.
