I go to a Rogers wireless to change my phone number to a new area code since I'm moving and they said I have to pay $25. Is there anyway I could get a new number w/o paying the fee?

I used to change my number twice a year when i went away for school in London, and I never got charged for changing my number.
Call Rogers customer service and they will change it for you no charge (but ask them just to be sure). The stores will always charge you because they consider it a service to change your number for you, which is so BS.
Good luck!LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked VTEC_Gurl for this post.

It's also $25 now to change your number for Fido. Just found out about this today - guess it was a place where they could make some money.

If you're moving there shouldn't be a charge. Just keep calling until you get someone that knows what they are doing.
I had to change my number when I moved to Vaughan from Sask and the first guy that I dealt with couldn't speak english worth a damn and didn't know what he was talking about. I just hung up and called back.LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked anotherguy for this post.

cool, I'll try calling them tonight once I find a phone bill. I remember I didn't pay anything when I switched #'s in Telus.

This old trick should work.
Try calling Rogers custy relations & complain that your getting threatening hassassing phone calls & make up some number thats calling you from a long dist # and say your concerned and how could this happen to you & they'll feel bad & offer to change it for you for free. I've done this for my cousin' once & my girl did it a few times she keep getting telemarketers calling her celly.

$10 on Rogers website, I just did that yesterday morning. You have 10 numbers to choose. Here how I did, I log on the sites at least 5 times until I see the one I like from 10 random numbers. Now I got a very nice 416 number, and I'm waiting for the number portability CRTC may approve soon.

Whoever you talked to probably thought you wanted a new number, because you didn't like your old one or something. However, if you're moving to a new area code, it should be free of charge. Call them up and explain it to them. Dumb it down a notch and tell them you've moving to another city (as oppose to a new area code).
