At this point, I am sure we have all had our frustrations with Rogers and their monopolistic ways. Sadly, it is hard to find a supplier that has better service than them.
Anyways, my story is that our house is closing on May 2nd. We had called Rogers on Apr 20th to cancel our services. They told us that due to the 30 days cancellation policy, they will charge us for an extra month. No to mention, because our billing cycle starts on Apr 17th, they will have to charge us an additional 3 days of services and rental fees. That's about 264 dollars WASTED. All the students have already moved out of the house so obviously there is no one there to use the stuff, but they will not budge on the 30 days policy.
However, they tell us taht if we open a new account with them with those services, they will cancel the fees. However, they will not transfer the amount to an existing house with Rogers services.
I am positively livid inside because we have been faithful Rogers customers for YEARS. Everything we have is under them and for them to charge us this fee seems ridiciously. Obviously, their customer reps have nothing helpful to say and this is the first time I felt like an unbelievably small fish in a large sea of consumerism. Any thoughts of where I can complain or do something that will actually help?

You do realize that the 30 day notice for cancellation is a standard clause in the Terms of Agreement for every telecomm service company right? That includes Bell, Telus, Rogers, all their subsidiaries, even Wind, Mobilicity or resellers like Teksavvy has the same clause.
Look, I hate Rogers as much as most people but it's not really their fault you never read the fine print despite being with their service for so many years._______________

Agreed with what everyone else said. However, IIRC there is a way to get that money back. On the other hand, I believe it's really time consuming... up to you! (google it, I don't remember where I saw this info last)

there are other choices out there

Read the Rogers wireless thread. There is an organization that you can call to recoup the extra month charge. Sorry can't remember the organization's name.

I would complain to your parents and teachers for:
1. Not teaching you how to read a contract
2. Not teaching you what monopoly means.

They may not have had the 30 day cancellation policy 12 years ago. I seem to recall that being introduced by most the telcos when competition for wireline services really started heating up about 7 years ago. That said, when it was introduced there would have been a notice about it on your bill ......... printed in tiny, tiny font ....... to inform you of it.
