Rogers extends cell contract with out authorization
Rogers extended my cell contract with out authorization. I had issues with my phone that was under warranty and sent in for repairs. It was not able to be fixed properely and was offered a replacement phone (the same model phone was known to have issues so it wasn't an option). First phone offered to me was not of the same specs so a second phone was agreed on. Phone came and all is good until I contact Rogers about my account and I'm told my contract has been extended by nine months because the phone given to me was an upgrade! No one ever told me this and I never agreed to this verbally or written. Why would I? My phone was still under warranty and up to rogers to replace or repair.
What actions do I take? They tell me they will charge fees if I cancel now. Let them take me to court and produce evidence that I authorized an extension? This would show as an unpaid bill on my crdit report. Do I try and charge the agent that did the unautharized extension with fraud?

This is nothing new. You get a replacement phone under their warranty and Robbers or Bhell just extends or starts your contract all over again. Only way you can find out if you can get out of this extended contract is to call. Be polite at first, if that don't work, raise hell and threaten to cut other Robbers services if they don't honor the original contract.

Typical Rogers. You think they are doing something good for the custoemr but just end up screwing their customers to strengthen their pockets.

How can they extend your contract with out your approval and knowledge? The phone was under warranty they were oblicated to replace or fix it free of charge. Who can I file a complaint with? CRTC ? Fair Trade Commission ?
My contract was up in Dec/11 they are claiming Aug/12. Maybe I should stop paying and let them take me to court and provide proof? May not be good for the credit raiting but I'm really pissed!

The same thing happened to me and it was traced to the fact that I had changed my plan during the term of the contract. I wanted to cancel data and they were telling me that I couldn't as I was still under contract. I had to go through my records and let them know I still had the original paperwork I signed 3 years before but they cancelled the data and offered a credit for their mistake.

Isn't Rogers required to have proof that I agreed to extend my contract? These guys seem to operate like thieves. I've talked to a few people who have similar stories. Looks like Rogers operates in this fashion hoping people comply under threat of their credit rating taking a hit. They should be charged with fraud.

Whatever you do, don't just stop paying. That will work out far worse for you in the long run. As much as you are in the right, you do not have a team of corporate lawyers at your beck and call.

question, and i'm probably going to catch hell for this in some form...
but why hasn't someone simply tried to fight fire with fire and take them down hacker way. like severe the system so that they are shut right down and can't do anything. like you hear of the PSN going down from hackers getting into it... so why not rogers, or bell ?
sure i know it's illegal to even try it, but really did the ones that took out PSN get caught ? you never heard the outcome of that.
with all these people being frauded in more than one way and basically forced to pay up or have credit and other means ruined why not just simply take them out ?
i personally feel that it's time to take a stand against corporations like this that once they have your info can do whatever they please with it and you are left feeling helpless and at their mercy. so then if it's going to be ruined why not hack them ?

PSN's system was likely breached to gain credit card data - it was only locked down by Sony to prevent future harm. Unless there is a large financial incentive for someone to hack Rogers, a relatively small company on the global scale, its not going to happen. Notwithstanding a radical individual tying to make a point, of course.

When this happens, I do believe it happens only ocassionally by a bad intentioned rep, and more often out of stupidity, incompetance, and negligence. On the other hand I think a well informed individual can usually get themselves out of the contract (granted not without a fight). Ask them to prove you agreed to a contract expension, ask a manager (or better yet send a letter requesting) that you be released from your contract unless they can provide you with a signed copy of the contract or a recording of you agreeing to the contract extension.
Not sure how it would work in practice, but in theory there should be some good channels to fighting the contract.

You could send them a registered mail with your next bill and put a cheque inside for whatever amount it is and write to: Robbers Inc.

I've asked them repeatedly for proof of me agreeing to a contract extension and they have failed to provide it. I asked again in my online complaint to the "office of the president". They are supposed to respond within 48 hours. I'll see what happens next.

They never do.
Never have I ever gotten a call back from Rogers after they told me they would. Every time I'm on the phone with a Rogers rep of any sort and they said that they would call me back, my BS detectors go off and I don't let them hang up with me. It just seems like a tactic cut off the complaint and hope that you forget about it.

Even if they don't have anything and it's just common practice for them means that they feel comfortable enough doing it. They have lots of collection lawyers on the payroll and you don't so they don't care fighting you for a very long time.
If i were you and they did that to me, i would tell them to cancel all services with them on the spot if they don't correct it. BTW, i switched from Rogers to Mobilicity for my whole family and switched from Rogers to Acanac (i have 3 locations) and i switched from Rogers to Shaw Direct (cut my bill in half and got more channels and no contract)
So if you want to learn from your situation. Don't go with Rogers and Bell anymore, and if you MUST (there is no one else in the world that can provide you with a similar service) then don't sign a contract, go with monthly rates even though it's more in the short run but less headache when you want to quit.

I only have cell sevice with them. My wife and I will never give them any of our hard earned cash again.
If I don't hear back in 48 I'll call back and tear a strip off the next manager that BS's me. I'm not going to be polite anymore.
