This socalled deal is icecold, I am in the same situation waiting for a better data deal, I am using Fido with unlocked older smartphone so this "deal" is of no use to me. Been with fido for 10 years, but now its time to change. looking at the touch phone from Bell and the OPSEU plan, I hope everyone here at least consider phoning Fido to complain. Still have a year to go on contract but am considering paying penalty...has anyone threatened to cancel and then managed to have an unlocked phone allowed anyways?
(I wish Rogers would NEVER have been allowed to acquire Fido, things were better before)

These guys can't just make up their mind. Some say E62 is ok, some say its not. I guess Rogers customers with E62s will find out at the end of the month. My understanding is that this deal only covers WAP Browsing. Since E62 can do both WAP and HTML, shouldnt I be able to get this deal and comply with the terms as long as I am only doing WAP browsing. Is the nokia 6682 covered under this deal atleast?

Regarding the E62 - I think the answers have varied not only by Customer rep, but by provider (Rogers / Fido).
I called into Fido at 8:05 on the 5th. The rep who picked up my call was not aware of the new feature at $7 or in the bundle for $20. She put me on hold to speak with a manager. When she came back on the line, she insisted there was no such feature or bundle. After guiding her through the Fido website, she put me on hold to speak with her manager and said I was eligible for the $20 plan.
I asked if I could use my BIS service and the new unlimited data plan (haven't been able to sign up to both BIS and Fido Data plans at the same time yet). She put me on hold, confirmed it with her manager and said yes.
I then asked if both my Nokia E61 and Nokia E90 were eligible. She put me on hold and came back and said no, but that I could request an upgrade to my E61 and order an E62 as the E62 was eligible on the unlimited data plan.
After explaining the E62 was a dumbed down version of the E61 and not an upgrade and I couldn't see why they wouldn't allow it, she put me on hold to speak with her manager, came back and said they would allow the E61 and would mark it in my file if ever there was a problem in the future.
When they tried adding the feature to my account, it didn't work. The only way it worked is if they removed my BIS feature. Since I need the BIS feature, I wasn't able to sign up.
However, as I was put on hold so many times, FIDO employees and managers not being aware of their new unlimited plans, not asking any questions regarding which phones I use from the beginning and still having no clue that you can't sign up to BIS and Fido Data on the account... I think Fido just doesn't know what's going on, little less what's allowed and what's not.

Update -
Called Rogers again and spoke to a "data rep" who confirmed that I can have this plan on my E62. His reasoning was that the previous $5 and $10 plans were available for all phones and that this new plan will replace the old ones, so the $7 plan will be the only one available going forward. I took the name, date and time down. If they over charge me I will make them pull the tape and listen to the call. Just got a Txt now saying "Your subscription to Streaming Video has been activated" , which means that this $7 plan is similar to the Rogers vision plan (?)

E61
I called Rogers yesterday, the CSR had no idea about the unlimited browsing. I walked her through Rogers site. She then tried to add it to my account, but the system won't let her since I was also subscribed to 4MB/$25 BIS service. She removed the BIS plan and the system then let her add the unlimited plan. I'm using a Nokia E61, she never inquired about the kind of phone I was currently using. I'll use the unlimited plan gingerly and wait for the bill next month

Does anyone have any actual evidence of this other than heresay?
My point of view - I have been with Rogers for 3 years now. I have always had a data plan - first with 250K and since with 2 MB.
I sold the phone I got from them two years ago. I have used two different phones since, both full PDA phones, not bought through Rogers (of cours - buying through Rogers is a rip off). In fact I have never told Rogers I even got a new phone (why would I bother?)
I have never been billed "per KB" for anything - anything I do with my SIM always goes under my plan, period, regardless what phone I use it with. From everything I have experience with it doesn't seem at all to me like Rogers tracks anything by IMEI.
If people have actual evidence to the contrary that is beyond speculation and rumor please post it. Also if people have specific evidence that they can use this $7 plan on phones other than their own "Rogers approved" phone, post that too. All you have to do is stick your SIM in a frien'ds PDA phone for a sec and visit one small web page like www.blank.com, which will only cost a few cents EVEN IF it doesn't show up under your regular plan.

The thing is your mixing 2 different things.
The 7$ thing is LINKED with the IMEI number of the phone, not the SIM
Normal data plans are linked with the SIM
again, similar to the HIPTOP option for FIDO. Must register the IMEI number with them as well (that was the case with hiptop, as i used one)

Too bad, this is a crappy effort on Rogers' part. I was waiting to see how they would react to the Bell/Telus plans as I my contracted ended last Nov.
I will definitely not sign up with rogers at this point. Now the questions is wait or go with Telus again.
