Thread: Rogers/Fido - Unlimited Mobile Browsing $7

I think this is a joke of a plan from Roger/Fido. I know personally trying to use browser feature on a standard phone is not the greatest experience.
I have the Bell unlimited browser plan with HTC Touch. It's amazing how Bell consider the Touch a regular phone for the unlimitied browser. (I can do IM, EMAIL, Google Map, browser)
What is next from Rogers?
I have a feeling they are going to block all the existing unlocked Iphone IMEI #'s when they start to roll out their Iphone. They can easily say that unlocked Iphones are illegal to cover their ass.
oh well....at least they are doing something but not much if you ask me.
Here is a suggestion:
RFD should try to negotiate a deal with Rogers/Fido/Bell/Telus for a RFD Corp Package, after all RFD have people power that will be willing to jump on a RFD deal.
$20 (Just a suggestion)
- 300 daytime
- unlimited ev/we from 6
- unlimited text (IN/OUT)
- unlimited browser with no device restriction
- no saf
- no 911
etc....

I'm sure it must be...
yes you can clone your IMEI, however its not only for ROGERS phones, it is also ONLY UNLIMITED for Roger Applications. So ie if you clone your IMEI all the 3rd party apps on your N95 wont work and you will be charged as you go. They might consider S60 browser, opera min as non-rogers (3rd party) (not verified which programs rogers considers "ok" tho)

Just to confirm, so it doesn't matter which rogers phone we use? I can switch between 2-3 rogers phone and they won't charge extra?
Do I have to give my IMEI to Rogers and that is the only phone I can use with the unlimited plan?
Question 2 -
What is the best current and maybe future phone that is good and that we can use with the unlimited plan.
Thanks
1. read the first few posts.. said it before..
2. A rogers phone that isnt a smart phone :P

Thanks for the quick response

WHAT
A
WASTE!!
I would not even bother with this so-called "unlimited data plan" as none of the worthy devices can use it. If you risk it, you might have a HUGE bill at the end of the month which will simply not be worth it...

A question (:
I have a K790 which is unbranded but no unlock? Does that make any difference?
Also will this plan work, if I were to connect to the internet via my N800, using my cellphone as modem?
Thanks!

This plan is much worse than Telus 15 dollar plan because you can not have BB and smart phones on this. So what is the point?!

is that k790 from Rogers?
As to second question...no.
No tethering (A.K.A using phone as modem to stream to another device such as laptop/tablet/etc)
"ON-DEVICE - STARTS AND ENDS ON YOUR DEVICE."

Why couldn't Rogers make an exception and include HTC Touch to make it allowed to have unlimited data. I mean that's on everybody's wishlist.
.....
1-lol...mean
2-I think that's exactly it. Premium phone...Premium devices always come with premium service bundles...it's a cash grab. Same reason by BB's though RECENTLY are being geared to the general public...are still exclusively handled as a business device with business rated data price plans

I would assume correct. No extra. It's a rogers device, done., only restriction is ROGERS/NON-ROGERS & DATA etc.
Do I have to give my IMEI to Rogers and that is the only phone I can use with the unlimited plan?

I guess one of the 3g ones with the largest screen?

Fido will not allow you to use BIS and their unlimited web surfing. It's one or the other. As I need BIS, the unlimited is out for me.
From Fido's Website - Does not mention it doesn't include E62:

hmmm...not sure...is it a smart-phone as per their position?

Thanks for the clarification.
First of all the cell is from rogers, but I unbranded it, it is still locked to rogers/fido, but I can use my MP3's as ringtones and couple extra features.
One more question came up:
Would that work with a 3rd party Navigation application installed on the phone, which needs to connect to the internet in order for it to download maps?
Thanks!

What's up with these half ass solutions that these company are providing. I can't wait until the wireless spectrum will open up for actual competition.

Agreed! This restriction is a backwards step. I use a Nokia 6230b which was never sold by Fido, so I am excluded from this for no good reason.

How would the browsing be on a LG Shine? Decent or awful?
If someone had a $10 Communicate pack with a monthly credit can they change to the $20 pack and keep the same credit?

I wonder about this too... hmmm...
The plan just seems REALLY restrictive. Basically you're limited to using the internet on a phone that isn't at all designed to make use of the internet.
