This has worked for me so far. I've configured Opera Mini through the WAP AP and have not incurred any data charges yet. I've also discussed this with a Fido CSR and I've asked them to place a note in my account stating that they have confirmed that I may use Opera Mini. This way, if I incur any charges, I can always bring this up and get them to reverse it.

so does this work with the Iphone? I remember ppl were waiting for their bills earlier to see if they'd get charged... what's the consensus now? Especially with Rogers getting the Iphone shortly

I think I know the answer but wanted to confirm; this $7 plan from rogers/fido will not work the the iphone purchased from them with the 3 year contract, and you would need the $30 option for that... am I correct?

Ahh. BOOOooooooooooo!!! That sucks, I wanted to jump on the HUP upgrade deal thats been posted, but with this, its not worth it for me personally, so I guess I will just wait out my contract with fido, and hope they get nicer phones to take advantage of this $7 plan. Just wanted something with a browser but with a big screen
Thanks for the fast reply, now I can stop thinking about whether I should call fido or not.

i jsut wanted to clairfy what qualifies as a smartphone. How About Rogers/Fido Branded Handsets That Have Been Unlocked Or Debranded?
As long as the device/handset is not a PC-card, smartphone, blackberry, etc. (see restrictions above), the Unlimited Mobile Browsing plan will still work on your unlocked or debranded handset. This is because unlocking and debranding a Rogers/Fido phone does not change the IMEI of your handset.
I have Sony Ericson W810i. I got it from Rogers. But i unlocked. Can i still get UL web browsing on it? or does my phoen coutn as smart phone?

Huh???
FIRST POST SAYS:
So What Are The Restrictions?
The plans will be restricted to Rogers or Fido branded phones/devices (respectively) that are non-PDA, non-Blackberry, non-Windows Mobile, and non-PC card devices. This means that the plan DOES NOT work for unlocked phones, tethering, smartphones, PDAs, Blackberrys, etc.
THEN FIRST POST GOES ON TO SAY:
How About Rogers/Fido Branded Handsets That Have Been Unlocked Or Debranded?
As long as the device/handset is not a PC-card, smartphone, blackberry, etc. (see restrictions above), the Unlimited Mobile Browsing plan will still work on your unlocked or debranded handset. This is because unlocking and debranding a Rogers/Fido phone does not change the IMEI of your handset.
WTF?!?!
AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE?
CAN IT WORK IF ITS UNLOCKED OR NOT???

Wap???
I have a Motorola KRZR K1, on the Fido network with an "unlimited" on-device browsing plan, which the CSR told me was for WAP only (not GPRS).
Now, it's quite confusing, because the default homepage on my Fido phone is
http://fidostore.clearmode.com/fidoWAP/go?page=index
and I'm quite certain that's a WAP page. But, all the links on that page seem to be toward non-WAP sites, like http://m.facebook.com which is a mobile (PDA-style) site, so I assume it's not WAP.
Furthermore, if you go to Wapsilon's WAP simulator:
http://www.wapsilon.com/
and type my phone's default homepage: http://fidostore.clearmode.com/fidoWAP/go?page=index
you'll see that if you click on any link toward other sites (like MSN, Weather Network, Yahoo, etc.) it says it will be charged at 3c/KB!!! So basically EVERYTHING apart from the ringtone store is charged 3c/KB.
Does that mean my "unlimited" WAP plan only allows me to browse through the menus of this homepage, and not access any of the outside links? All the mobile websites proposed by the homepage I can access them with Firefox (on my computer). Does that mean they're all HTML and non-WAP? Also, do I need to check every site's URL on Wapsilon's simulator to make sure they're really WAP?
And finally, is there a way to make my phone's browser WAP ONLY, and disable GPRS?

I am reviving this post because I am still under this Unlimited Mobile Browsing.
I have a nokia 5800, I am using the $10 mobile browsing for everything and it is 3G as well. I have never been charged more for a single KB used. (unless I was out of the country)
I am able to tether (JoikuSpot) to my laptop and other wireless devices
I am able to surf the net with Opera, UC Browser
I am able to use Google Maps
Anything that requires 3G
So my question is, I am looking to upgrade my phone because the Nokia 5800 is old and isn't really doing what I want to anymore.
Is it possible to buy a de-branded/unlocked smart phone like at pacific mall, insert my sim card and continue using the data from there? I was looking at other Nokias like N9, X7, E7 or some HTC Android.
I've been told no, but I haven't been able to get a chance to use a demo smart phone and try so. I need some convincing. All for trying to avoid getting a proper data plan? WORTH IT.

Tethering on an unlocked GSM phone does not work with the unlimited on-device browsing. I had a no-brand Chinese unlocked phone (running generic Nucleus RTOS) and when attempting to connect to data using the phone's (WAP) browser, there were only the $2/20MB option or the monthly data add-on. On my current Fido Samsung Galaxy Q T-589R it's the same thing.
