As seems to always be the case with rogers, they have decided to implement a new system charging me for going over my 100GB cap.
I wish there was some way to hold them equally accountable, as when I signed up, the only reason I did so was because I explicitly wanted a service with no caps.
I don't go over by much (106-111GB a month), but their new system is dedicated to gouging me for that, so I have chosen to leave.
I was looking at some of the other forums, but does anyone have any good experience with a capless provider? I understand bell is going the same way as rogers, so any advice would be welcome.
I have a much better cable connection than my phone line (in terms of reliability and speed), and I am located in Toronto.
Advice would be welcomed.

rogers
Are you guys using Newsgroups? I think Rogers started throttling newsgroups. My speed went down just about 2-3 days ago.

I haven't received any notice or anything. Even email in my Rogers Yahoo mailbox although I don't use it. Been told that they were testing it and the monitoring software is not accurate or something.
Will definitely gone if it's actually implemented. Along with the TV and others. Pointless for high speed if it's capped._______________

Here's the scoop: (copied from a poster at dslreports)
In September Rogers is going to start charging people for going over bandwidth.
However, because they expect people to get upset and complain about it they will be automatically waiving all charges until December.
Also, as per Caps, they are not going to be the same. Express is supposed to be changing to 50GB.
The good news to come out of this is for Extreme Plus customers. The bandwidth cap for ALL TIERS is going to be $50 now. Extreme Plus is currently at $200. That's a good thing!
Again, all of this is subject to change, as these are what is "expected" to be implemented. Nothing is "set in stone" until our tools have been updated with the final pricing.
EDIT: Also, the overage cost is going to be changing depending on what tier you are on. Extreme Plus is going to be $1.25, Extreme $1.50, Express $2.00, Lite $2.50, U-Lite, $2.75.

Shaw is going to be doing a similar method in the future; keep a heads up for that. I am not sure if they are going to be charging but they are going to be offering an extra 20GB/month of bandwidth for a set price. So those going beyond their caps; keep it up! You only got a few more months of freedom.
