rogers phone calling Canada from the U.S.
Please, I will be away for all of July and need to understand how best to use my Rogers cell phone while in the U.S.
Can someone explain the cheapest way to use a Rogers cell phone calling or texting back to Canada ?
thanks

I've been told that most of the cell providers have short term plans for international travel. By short term I mean 60 days. I believe that at one time you could get a 30 day plan but some of the cell companies have made 60 days their new minimum.

Rogers has an LD plan but you have to sign up for a minimum 3 months.

First, you MUST get your phone unlocked. If you use your Roger's SIM while in the US you will get a huge bill.
Then you must get a U.S. prepaid SIM. If you want to be able to use the 3G radio on your Roger's phone then it must be an AT&T SIM, otherwise T-Mobile is OK too.
Alternatively, if you don't have time to get it unlocked, then you can get a cheap phone bundled with the U.S. prepaid SIM.

how is someithing like xpresscall ?
you call a 1-888 number then call your canandian number. technically, the 1-888 would be a local call using your local minutes.

Qwavel is correct. If you want to use your Rogers phone in the US prepared for a huge bill. Getting a US long distance plan isn't going to matter or trying to use Xpresscall... as long as you're roaming your bill will be huge. Last time i was in the US with my Rogers phone text messages was like $1.80 per incoming and $2.40 to send. Per minute air usaged is around 95 cents per minute plus 25-75 cents per minute if you are receiving a call (yup nice of Rogers to charge you a Long Distance charge ontop of Roaming). So basically you're looking at $0.95 to $1.70 per minute airtime. Sadly is cheaper to buy a US pay as you go phone then chuck it away when you leave.

Get ans cheap Pre-paid phone in the us from at&t from the local walmart or kmart or something and you wouldn't regret it.
I was in Dallas, Texas for 2 weeks during christmas holiday, I bought an at&t pre-paid phone from wal-mart for $20 and it came with $10 free (pre-paid credit)... $10 prepaid is a big big differeance from a $10 pre-paid in canada ... in us you get more out of it.

I really need this before departing Toronto on Wednesday since I am travelling with bus so I will not be able to shop for the card.
I heard that some Fido or Rogers kiosks have these cards ?
