Tougher time this time around, negotiating for my dad. He's in a nursing home, so as a Level 1, "threatening to cancel" is harder as I am technically not allowed to cancel.

He has 150U + Premier + Home Phone for like $170 all in, promo expiring in a month. He'd be happy with just 150U and Premier (even lesser Internet), but they're coming up with no savings right now.

What's crazy is just a month ago when negotiating my own plan, I was offered ~$105 + tax for 500U + Premier, so surprised I'm not able to get anywhere near this for him.

I'm currently with Bell and wanted to stay with them, but the best they'd offer for what I'm looking for (Fast internet, Cable with PVR on 2-3 TVs, and home phone with long distance, call waiting and call display) was $188. That sounds very very high, so I reached out to Rogers to one of the agents who left a postcard and received the deal below. I think I should go for it, but does anyone think I could get something better?

Ignite 500
Popular Cable + 1 HD PVR
Home phone lite
All rental and installation fees
No contract
For $99.99 per month plus tax,

Extra phone features are $3 and extra TV receivers for $12.

Thanks for any advice!
With a lot of effort (and luck) cheaper prices are possible, or maybe throw in HBO with it. It's a good price and package however.

A reasonable price for a 500mb+ unlimited internet connection + popular or premier tv package, 1 pvr would be in the 75-100 (+tax) range.

You also want the Luso channel bundle (I'm assuming premier channels), list on that is $30. Phone in a bundle should be around $20 max, and 2 additional hd boxes around 7/ea.

Keeping everything you have/or better target pricing should be around 164+tax. That actually ends up pretty close to what you were quoted, however, i'd expect a much faster/unlimited internet connection at that price.
With a capped 75mb i'd want another $20+ off that price so around 144+tax a good/reasonable aftertax price then for exactly what you have likely would be $162

Mainly, it's the Luso bundle + phone + extra hd boxes + tax that start adding up with that. :(

(edit)

I'd start by submitting a pre-dated cancellation order for the internet connection. Pre-dated so Rogers has time to call you back with a winback offer (hopefully that will effect your tv pricing also). Don't tell Rogers this would be your choice, but expect to switch to Fido if they don't try contacting you or giving you more reasonable pricing. https://www.fido.ca/consumer/promotions . The reason you're not going to say anything is Fido IS Rogers. Fido is currently offering 75mb unlimited for 32.50+tax/month. $76.83-36.73= $40.10 less then what your current package totals. If they ask, you're considering Carrytel, Cannet, or Ebox.
Thanks for this! It's helped me think about what I would want from a service POV, which now I've updated below:

Internet
Ignite 75 + modem rental: I'm willing to leave it as is, unlimited would be nice but not a must-have

TV
I'm willing to actually downgrade to Popular package, and the Luso is the $20 one, not the bigger $30 one.
1x Nextbox 3.0
2x HD Terminals

Home Phone
Keep same, $20

What you reckon I can get that down to? By keeping base price down, might help when the price goes up.

And by submitting a pre-dated cancellation, that's calling to tell them I've already got something lined up and to terminate my service in 7 days?

From your bill, i'd probably suggest submitting a termination on the internet for October 7th (the end date of your billing cycle). That gives a reasonable reason for having picked that date, and if they ask you can just say you're trying to decide between other providers that offer much better prices (true!). With what you have, it might be difficult to submit a cancellation on everything since i've honestly no idea if the Italian channels are available from anyone else.

If you're ok with dropping to popular from premier, that also gives you something you can work with when speaking with Rogers.

You might find that you can get a better price by upgrading to 500u from 75 capped, even if you don't need it. Personally, I decreased my price $20/month by switching from a 12 month 500mb promotion to a 24 month gigabit promotion. Make sense? No. To the agent I was speaking with, he just 'upsold' me. Do I need the speed increase? Not at all. I'll take it though, and deal with it again in 2 years.

A reasonable price for 500u, popular + pvr + 2 terminals, home phone and $20 Luso bundle: Probably around $145+tax / $167

That's the exact plan and price I'm looking for, but as an existing customer they won't give it to me. I guess I'll reach out one more time to see if they'll give this to me before switching to bell.

Anyone know the best place to find new customer deals? I am in the Ottawa area should it make a difference. Thanks!

Just a quick question to understand. "ignite tv" means ip-based, no longer cable-based? i.e. older cable boxes will not work?

I'm facing the end of my contract in November. What I have now is 500U, with "Popular" cable channel group and NextBox 3.0 HDPVR - $112.99 per month, pre-tax. It also includes the Hitron CGN3ACSMR modem.

The modem is the problem - it disconnects frequently, requiring a reboot. Also, it's not 802.11ac compatible. I understand that the newer model is the Hitron CODA-4582 which does have 802.11ac. They won't agree to extend my current service without keeping the existing modem.

Any suggestions?

Called Rogers to cancel at the end of my billing cycle. The rep asked if I have already ported my number, to which I said no. He said if I put in a cancelation request now, there's a chance I can lose my number, especially because porting a number can take up to 7 days.

True?

Yes, if you intend to port your number out, do not cancel/put in a cancellation on your current line. It would block the port from going through.

No, what I intend to do is to get a call from win-back.

That's right. They will be swapped with wireless boxes much smaller in size with the most recent technology.

You're playing with fire cancelling a phoneline expecting Rogers to call you with a cheaper winback offer with it.

Better choice would probably be just porting it to a (much!) cheaper VOIP provider. I've had multiple phonelines with freephoneline.ca for several years and and no problems at all. I pay $0.00/month for free canadian long distance, unlimited local calling, caller id, call waiting, voice mail.
