Rogers Gigabit Customers - New Gigabit Modem (Targeted? YMMV)

Looks like there's a new modem/router for free to swap.

As an existing Rogers Gigabit Internet user, I got the below email:

Hi Valued customer,
We hope you have been enjoying Rogers IgniteTM Internet with Gigabit speed. To ensure you get the very best from your service as we continue enhancing our network with the latest technology, you’ll need to exchange your current modem for the new Gigabit Wi-Fi Modem.

Your new modem will give you:
• The fastest Wi-Fi technology
• An even stronger signal strength and range
• Clean new design, ideal for display anywhere
• Easy Wi-Fi setup using any smartphone, laptop or tablet

How to get your new Gigabit Wi-Fi Modem:
Simply bring your current modem and power cord to a
Rogers Store within the next 30 days to swap for the
new Gigabit Wi-Fi Modem.

I got this email too, but I don't see it is a "Deal".
It is just Rogers changing equipment

Bright side of RFD: Often find good deal
Dark side of RFD: Tons of stuff that I don't need but still got them because of RFD

What's the make of the new modem? Still Hitron?

Good - I found the Hitron flaky. Have to reboot every couple weeks to get access to attached drives.

Also heard it was buggy. Rogers obviously rushed this to market to directly compete with the Bell Home Hub 3000 during the holiday season.

I'll be the guinea pig -- I'm having issues with my cgn3552 and archer c7 -- hoping I get better throughput with this

IF and WHEN it works as advertised, what sort of benefits are we getting? the list at the first post sounds fluffy. I mean, i'm not using the modem as a router. So nothing in the list appeals to me.

Most important thing, can this be put in bridge mode?

Me too. Also I was having problems with my access point router where it would drop my connections and wouldn't allow devices to reauthenticate every 10 mins.

gonna get swapped out. As I posted in rogers technical thread, I am getting one of the worst performance in wifi history, even using bridge mode using AC2600, sitting right next to the router. I got 2mb DL and 18mb Up on 2.4 ghz - really? upload faster than DL by that significant margin? something is not working and I can't help to think it may have to do with the modem, since I find it hard to find interference that would hinder DL speed but not Up speed.

Doesn't help that for some reason, AC2600 has worse wifi range than hitron at the moment. Nothing works as intended other than hard wiring.

Rogers would be shooting themselves in the foot if they gimped their own router this way...not saying that can't happen, but it's not likely. So yes, I would assume that you can put it in bridge mode.

Yes need to know if they are finally getting rid of the awful hitron. I've always used them in bridge mode but they just seem so cheap compared to rogers previous modems. The outgoing Motorola models would be rock solid indefinitely barring power interruption. This push to turn modems into routers is ********, if they want to do that they should just provide customers two pieces of hardware.

While not a deal, I'm happy the OP posted... gonna swap out the modem tonight if I can find a store with stock. I'm really tired with the roller coaster of crappy speeds since getting gigabit in my area.

Apparently the modem helps quite a bit for Gig users.
