Rogers Scamming us with the 60GB Data Usage????!!!! URGENT

hey everyone, I just received an email telling my that my data usage is 75% used up. As I recall, I only downloaded a couple 3GB movies and nothing else. Would other things relating to data would allow me to possibly use 75% of my 60GB data??? Please help and have a great weekend!

When you're browsing websites, it would contribute... when you're streaming movies to watch online that contributes... when your neighbours decide to borrow your internet to download movies, that contributes

Try checking your day-to-day usage online. It might give you some hints as to where your bandwidth went.

I don't stick up for Rogers very often but I have to say they are extremely accurate with their data monitoring. I have bandwidth tracking software intstalled on my computers and usually right around the 46GB mark I get the 75% notice and after the 62GB or so mark I get the 100%

if you stream movies or tv shows..heck even youtube..your eating up a similar amount of bandwidth as compared to direct downloading. and bittorrent is about twice as bad

do you have a wifi router and is it secured? people like to leech the neighbours net access when it's open.

In my case that is a big Negative. That usage meter is a scam in itself. I had the same issue as the OP for 3 months. I finally broke down and installed a bandwith meter on my machine showing bandwith usage @ the router level.( so I could see total usage for everything connected to my network.) The disparity was ludicrous. I KNOW no one else was using my bandwith as my network is locked down TIGHT. I called Rogers and had a throw down fight over the phone with customer "service". They kept insisting I was stupid and wrong. So I got a mangers email address and sent a screen grab showing my daily usage for a full month. The problem was solved @ this point. Never received an apology or anything. Now they do not mess with my caps or show faux bandwith usage on my account. I am smart when it comes to tech and beat Rogers @ their game. You have to wonder though, how many other customers that are not savvy at all regarding tech, that Rogers rips off on a monthly basis with this scam.

I can only speak for myself, of course, but it has usually been accurate for me. But more importantly, for the OP, it might help diagnose where the bandwidth is going. For example, if there is high usage on days that the OP was sure he/she wasn't using the internet heavily, then probably, their network isn't secure. Or it might remind the OP of some usage that slipped the mind. Or it might occur to the OP that in the process of downloading a couple of 3GB movies, they uploaded much more.

Depends on how much Youtube and streaming movies online per day. Without downloading, my daily usage is about 1.5GB and that is based on what my router reports (and it is more or less the same as Rogers online report).

youtube not so much but most streams aren't even compressed :/

they end up taking more bandwidth than if you downloaded it in avi

I heard you loud & clear.

I had this problem for months (paying overcap charge) before I finally switched to Teksavvy. I couldn't figure out why??? We didn't download much and only online gaming is COD when my nephew came over our place. But still, my upload was so high without running any net servers. Frock! I gave up on Rogers for good.

It disgust me that people would do things like this, and to add insult to injury you download 200-300gb every month. > :(

At least Rogers gives you a daily breakdown of your usage.... Bell just gives you a made-up total and tells you to stick it!

Incorrect...

Log in to mybell. Go to your internet usage, above the first chart (above total usage) there is a text link 'SEE DAILY VIEW', under the period selection. It gives you daily usage up and down....

Accuracy I can't comment on...
