I logged into my router 192.168.0.1 cusadmin/password and disabled "disable all commercial gateway functions" and now I cannot connect to 192.168.0.1 but still have internet?

factory reset the unit. hold the reset switch at the back of the unit.

once you disable the gateway setting, you won't be able to access that modem if i remember right, so just reset it.

That worked, thank you!

That modem/router is a piece o' crap sht. I got pissed off fixing my buddy's network because of that. Buy a motorola surfboard modem and return that thing, You save $7/month on the rental. (The new modem is paid off in 14 months)

I thought I had to use the modem Rogers provides, I didn't know I could buy one separately. I would like to switch to fibreop but I don't think that is possible right now since I live in an apartment but I might be moving soon.

Would that modem work for Fibreop? and would either one of these Wireless models be any good?

You can buy your own modem. You just need to call in and let them know the modem's serial # in order to get service properly. What is Fibreop? (Did you mean Fibe service from Bell?) They are not compatible. This modem is only compatible with Rogers cable internet.

The 1st one support Docsis 3 and the 2nd one support Docsis 2. Since Rogers rented you a SMCD3N, you need the 1st one. If in case you are switching to Fibreop (or Fibe), you can always re-sell the modem that you bought. The value will hold up and Docsis 3 was introduced last year and will stay for a few years, until something faster/better comes.

Cool thanks, FibreOP bells fiber to the home in the Maritimes http://www.bellaliant.net/fibreop/ I guess it won't work.

I'll wait and see if there is any boxing day sales before I buy, thanks again.
