Rogers Vacation Hold?

Hi Guys,
Im a rogers customer...and will be out of country for about 2 months and want to put my account on vacation hold or something like that...does rogers have that service?

My grandparents use to do that when they went to Florida for 6 months, I don't think there was a charge for the service. But give them a call.

yup...minimum hold period is 3 months...there's a minimal monthly service fee instead of the monthly charges

and depending on how diligent the rogers technician is, the service may stay active for months

I think the service fee is $20 per month. It is the same fee they charge when you loose your cell phone. You can hold your account for $20 per month.

They charge the same amount for early cancellation. I beleive it was $20 per month for the remaining months of your contract, up to a maximum of $200. Which is better than Bell. They have no maximum.

They do this because they subsidisze the phones when you sign for a contract. So you sign for 3 years and get a free phone. Imagine using the phone for 1 week and then say you are going on vacation for the next three years. Then you sell your phone and wait to cancel your contract.

it's a policy to protect Rogers and Bell, not us the consumer.

they can put a max leave of absence for say 3 or 6 months with a maintenance fee of $5 to $10 (whatever maintenance they need to do?); that's a reasonable time frame and the providers won't get ripped off; but really when was the last time the providers got ripped off?

Yeap $20 a month plus "licensing fee" of $6.95 per month, and only if your contract is up! What a Freaking deal eh.

I thought it was SAF + 911 fee ($6.95 + $.050) only while you're gone. Then your contract gets extended by the amount of time you're gone...

Bumping up an older thread as I am in the same boat as the OP. We will be out of the country for a period of time and prefer not to pay anything during that period, obviously.

I have a corporate plan with Rogers (no contract) and my wife is under contract. I can confirm Rogers does not have a *vacation disconnect* option like Telus where you pay $10 and put your services on hold (at least that is what 2 different CSRs told me).

With all that said, I asked for the data plan to be removed from my plan and will only pay $18 voice + taxes for the duration of my absence. When I get back I will call to re-activate the data plan again, no cancellation or anything like that so I got to keep my existing number, no harm done.

My wife does not have a smartphone so we downgrade it to the lowest possible plan, $20/month and that's all she wrote.

No option to put wireless services on hold. You can only downgrade to the minimum plan. You can put your cable, internet and home phone on hold. They call it the "travellers ticket". I believe they charge $3.99 per service per month maximum 6 months.

This is true but minimum is 2 months (again that is what the CSR told me). We are gone for just slightly less than 2 months so i simply downgraded Internet to the lowest plan (Ultra-Lite, i should have asked whether dial-up is still available lol). I already have cable at the lowest level which is basic so that's that.

No more home phone with Rogers (VoiP.ms all the way!)
