[Canadian Tire] Rotella T6 Synthetic Diesel Oil 18.9L $102.49 after MIR

I just got a sale alert from Canadian Tire that the 18.9L pails of Rotella T6 5W40 and 0W40 are on sale at $127.49. Regular price is $149.99. This works out to $6.75/L. I use this oil in my TDI and motorcycle.

Edit:thanks to dirtmover for pointing out the $25 MIR available here: http://www.shell.ca/en/products-service ... E2MC9jYS8=

This brings the cost down to $5.42/L. I received the MIR from Shell with no issues last time I submitted the rebate online.

I wonder if this is approved to be used in 3.0l Mercedes engines (Grand Cherokee Diesel 2007) ?
I forgot what standard the oil need to satisfy to be allowed to be used in this engine.

It's 507.1 and I don't think the Rotella you get here qualifies because it's different then the Rotella you get overseas. We couldn't find anything at Canadian Tire that qualified when we had to change the oil on our 08 diesel Grand Cherokee earlier in the summer.

If you have the OM642 engine then this oil is applicable because it has the MB 228.31 approval.

I couldn't find anything ever but Mobil1 from Auto Value.

Although jfd3220 says this oil is applicable (I believe 228.31 is a proper requirement).

If your engine has a DPF (diesel particulate filter) you can NOT use this oil.

If you have a DPF you can only use 229.31 or 229.51. I use 229.51 (Mobil 1 European Formula)

Cars with DPF include MB models using OM642 (E class diesel, ML320, GL320) and all Sprinter models. Not sure about the Jeep but I think they have a DPF also.

228.31 will work but you will have very expensive DPF problems. I have even heard of the occasional case of an MB dealership using it!

I think I saw that CT sells the Mobil1 ESP which is MB229.51. So does NAPA, btw, and they permanently offer 10% off with an CAA card.

I can't find that spec (MB229.31) on the Shell Rotella website - in fact I can't find any specs it meets on Shell's website. Can you link where you found it?

However, I did find a $7 MIR on the 5L jugs.

Sorry but this is a horrible deal. I work in the trucking business and we use this oil in all our trucks. This can be bought at any dealership or truck supply store for $75 regular price. When on sale it drops to $60.

Yeah I think you're confusing this with the dino rotella. The T6 sells for $20/gallon at Walmart in the states to put things in perspective.
