Just bought a big tub of potato salad from Costco. Found a piece of black thing in it. I washed it to have a good look at it. It's a piece of rotten potato. It is black, just horrible. Can't found more pieces in my tub, so the rest of the rotten potato must be in other tubs. The "Best Before" in my tub is 2012 AU 20 20 09:19.
What else can I do besides return it to Costco or dump it?

Sue Costco for the potential illness that could have resulted and for the suffering you experienced after seeing a piece of rotten potato. You may need counselling as well to get over this so that'll cost a bit too.
Seriously though, return it and get your money back. Stuff happens._______________Korean girlfriends? Learn to Google? Save money?

Suck it up and eat the rest, saving the container and the black one which looks like a truffle for your return. You didn't prepare your own potato salad; you waited for a coupon discount, and probably you can't cook and realize that these things can occur. There will be someone in line with an equally bizarre story.

If you are okay with eating the remainder of the tub, then you probably shouldn't return it. If you won't eat any more of it because of the black piece, then, by all means, return it for a refund. They'll just give you back your money (they won't give you an extra tub as another poster speculated).

Yeah, He'll eat all of It and keep the rotten piece and go back to Costco and be like "I found this, Refund please!". Win! Although you'll look very very cheap, LOL!
Funny story, My buddy told me a story of a person eating a BK, They ate their burger to a point where It was like one bite left and they asked for a new burger complaining that they weren't satisfied.. The customer got a new one but everyone saw and It was embarrassing LOL!_______________

are you sure it's rotten? because potatos has the tendency of getting blackheart while growing and storaging (due to temperature n' suffocation) that will result in blacken parts within a potato.
Those aren't hazardous but simply not pleasing to the eye and is eatable. tho the taste is questionable.
if you have cooking experience you should know about this.Last edited by aeolus811tw; Jul 28th, 2012 at 08:54 PM.
