Round trip Toronto-Montreal
Does anyone know what's the cheapest yet efficient way to get from Toronto to Montreal is?
Greyhound is $58, takes 8 hrs
VIA is $80, takes 5.5 hrs (provided I can snag seats)
Airfare is $100.
Car is $25 (there's 4 of us going so split $100 by 4, but vehicle mileage goes way up), takes 6 hrs.
I would prefer VIA, but it's $80. If there's a good deal out there, I'd definitely jump on VIA.
Thx.

Don't you think you answered yourself?
$100 by car divided by 4 vs $80 each (return? seems too cheap to me) and the car is only 1/2 hour longer.

he may be worried about gas cost, parking, potential tickets on 401 speed traps etc.

If your going to downtown Montreal then Via is great. Drops you off right in the downtown core.

Having done the drive a couple of times to and from Montreal as well as a couple with VIA, we only take VIA now. It's so much more relaxing. I hate driving such long distances.
There is also a bus that costs from $1 on up. http://ca.megabus.com

I stand by Megabus all the time. Crowded, though. If you like having nobody beside you, make sure you're large enough to take up two seats. lol

To get good VIA rates, you need to book (imo) at least 2 or 3 weeks in advance (probably longer for weekends).
VIA is currently having a promo price of $69 between Toronto and Montreal, but I doubt you'd be able to find any fares at that rate for this weekend.
http://www.viarail.ca/corridor/en_index.html
Seats are limited and to obtain the $69 promotional fare between Toronto-Montréal and Toronto-Ottawa, tickets must be purchased no later than four (4) days prior to departure.

I briefly saw the $80 from via when I checked the superdiscount fare. $80 was for one way.
The dates that I checked were for the Xmas period, so they're pretty much all gone...

I came across thrifty rentals today. Economy sized car (like yaris/corolla) are going for $76 one day unlimited KM so going to MTL in that is pretty good - especially if you have a group of 3-4 sharing the car. The one way charge is also included.
