I've tried SMC (wired), Siemens(2.4b), USR(2.4b), iBlitz(2.4g) and Linksys(2.4g). Linksys hands down for options and relaibility. The open source firmware is awesome too.

Sounds likes everyone got their good and bad stories. Guess its between knowledge, getting a good or bad one from the shelf and some luck.

She showed me a beach, gave me a peach - and pulled out the suntan lotion

Go with Linksys. Linksys=Cisco. Cisco knows how to make decent networking stuff.
I would rank Dlink below SMC, but thats just personal opinion after having used the products.

Bought this router on Boxing day as well, got the DWL-G520 pci card to go with it. Didnt see anything cheaper at the time.
Anyways, I've had the connection up for a good 3 weeks now, no problems. I don't do huge amounts of file transfers or downloads, but when i play music off one of my other comps, everything plays fine. emails here and there, light web browsing. I dont have a 2.4ghz so i dont have many problems with that. So far my experience with it is that its a good enough for what I do.
Does anyone know where I can get a better antenna. Although I dont get any signal loss, I'm only at 40-50 % signal strength.
Cheers_______________
