ScotiaMocatta, a division of Scotia Bank, handles precious metals. They're located downtown (Toronto).

I don't remember hearing the word ScotiaMocatta. I'll look into that.
From what fragments I can remember. Person ordered online or called. And then got some notice or confirmation it was in, and went to pickup.
The thing that caught my eye was the spot or very near spot price offered for not some large purchase that would be out of reach for me.

Went to Scotia head office yesterday, was told everything is priced @USD. So the final price of coins is depended on price of silver and USD to CDN exchange rate + $5 fee if your purchase is under $2000. Got a quote for 10 coins, final price is $390.XX

I called Gold Stock, was quoted $37.XX each for maple silver. When I was there, I was told $40.50 each. The guy explained $37.XX is for 25+ coins. Anyway I was too tired to walk around, I got 2 cougar from them.

I went there and was told I needed my social insurance card and another piece of id. I know my sin # but that wasn't good enough..needed the actual card. If you don't have an account with them you can only buy a maximum of 10oz of silver. If you do open an account with them and don't do your daily banking with them they will require a letter from your current bank verifing where your funds came from to make a large transactions (over 10 oz ?). When you do buy there are pages of paper work to fill out and your receipt is needed to sell back to them.

I left and went to an authorized bullion dealer and purchased a 10 oz silver bar for cheaper than Scotia was selling for. No id required. Just asked my name.

you can go change hunting or you can just buy one off of eBay (etc) or a coin dealer. you'll pay a slight premium though

Thank you to all in this thread for sharing this deal, posting multiple free shipping codes, and the bullion discussion. I learned a lot.

I ordered last year's maple leaf $20-for-$20 but had no idea the canoe ones existed. Must have missed those. Whoops.

Anyway, I ordered 3 polar bears, 3 sets of Legendary Nature quarters, and the free subscription. Entered shipping code Vancouver 30 for free shipping. I selected Xpress Post since the Lettermail option seemed to disappear after I entered that code. Got my e-mail update last night telling me the polar bears had shipped, but to my surprise I saw $7.99 charged for Xpress Post. I phoned the toll free number 1-800-267-1871 to explain. They told me that free shipping was only for Lettermail, which, as you remember, conveniently "disappeared" as a shipping option when I tried to check out. They promised to refund the $7.99 even though it may take a while. I'm not too worried. The phone call took less than five minutes and they were very polite and understanding. Good experience overall.

I'm finding their system not very reliable. I just got a email today saying my order is shipped, but I received it a couple days ago on Tuesday but it did show properly on the website.
