Is it safe to put synthetic engine oil to my 1991 Honda Accord?
My old Accord works well for me, so I want to treat it better.
LOL, the truth is I just got a few jugs of synthetic Mobile 1 5w-30 engine oil at a very low price.
So is it a good idea to change engine oil with synthetic?

No problem at all but why?
If this old vehicle has been good to you with regular oil, why spend the extra? It is not going to be any different and it is in no way "better" for your engine at this point.
But, it seems you went out and bought it already so go ahead and put it in. You may, in fact, find the engine to be a bit more noisy with the lower viscosity lubricant. Perhaps it will blow by the seals a bit so check your levels regularily.

Treat it better by keeping up with oil and filter changes, and other routine maintenance. The only practical difference with you putting synthetic oil in is the hit to the pocketbook.
Does it have the typical Honda rear quarter-panel cancer?_______________
Deal with it.

Unless you can sell the Mobil 1 to someone, I guess you really have no other choice but to put it in (Since letting it sit will end up costing you more in the end).
Personally, I think Mobil 1 would be wasted in a typical 1991 Accord, as it will suffer damage from other items at this age before the oil in the engine causes failure.

synthetic oil in your engine will work better only at cold start, when temp below -10C.
also synthetic oil can leak through old epiploons, but most old american engines leaking even with mineral oil.

As usual, didn't read the remainder of the reply...

Firstly, what the H... is an "epiploons"?
How did we ever live without synthetic lubricant. it is a wonder everything dinner seize up?
Synthetic oil is not a panacea, it is just a small technological step. Ease up on this miracle product.

....it'll work without problem...
Running synthetic oil will work fine. It's actually the same as regular oil but comes off at a higher boiling point at the refinery. What this does is it allows the oil to have a higher thermal breakdown point (can withstand higher temperatures before viscosity breakdown). You can run full synthetic for 20,000 kms without the oil breaking down. I only change oil once a year in my 1992 For Escort and I run full synthetics as well.
