Same bug every summer
So I notice every summer I always see this same bug. It flies for a bit into my room (it's followed me from Toronto to waterloo for the past two years) then it just lands and stays sitting there. Past few times I've just caught it in a jar and let it go outside and then I never see this bug again until the next year.
It's funny because my family believes in reincarnation and sometimes I hear them talking about our dead family members that have reincarnated into bugs and they come to visit us every once in a while.
I'm not sure if I follow the same view but what I do know is it's the same bug every year in the summer.
Can anyone identify it or has this happened to anyone else?
UPDATE: another of the same insect just flew in. Trapped it together with the other one from before. The insects have an elongated body and they do fly when I see them (they fly in and then land and don't fly again even inside the jar) but it's difficult to see the wings when they aren't (looks like it's part of the body). They also never move inside the jar unless I tilt the jar upside down or make the insect lost footing.
I'll post a picture tomorrow of the insect in question.

Ok the picture turned out terrible (phone cameras blow) so I won't post it. But no it isn't a moth. Hard to describe it in words so I'll try to see if I can find a picture that looks like it.

Take a look at Bug Guide - http://bugguide.net/node/view/15740
Is it more like a beetle type?

But I don't believe it has red eyes and the entire body is a very dark brown colour. I'll do a bit more research. Anyone else see these in the summer?

Yes that sounds like the same ones. I really want to find out what it is!

If it looks like a giant flying ant it might be a flying carpenter ant like this (although if you look at the whole catagory you will see they can also be black) http://bugguide.net/node/view/48640
If so, you will see them once or twice a year when they are swarming (splitting their colonies and one is moving). They can suddenly appear in the hundreds and then an hour later you won't see them. The live in wood so if there is a nest in or around your house, you might see some flying around when they are splitting the colony. They are kind of weird, like they have a watch and maybe they follow the moon phases but they only are visible at certain times and the rest of the time you barely notice they are around (often you will only see the ones from the colony that don't have the wings).

They do kind of look like that but the wings are not see through like in the pictures. They're very dark and it's almost as if you wouldn't even know they could fly or have wings unless you saw them do so.
