I'm buying a brand new Samsung cell phone from Kijiji that comes no receipt, and the seller claims I can still obtain warranty service from Samsung Canada by providing them the IMEI number. Would anyone know whether this is true?
Thanks,

For the most part that I know of It's true.
All they need Is IMEI # and It should have records of purchase date and so It's 1 year warranty for most Samsung products right?_______________

I just went into the Samsung service center with a phone I bought on Kijiji. They told me since I wasn't the original purchaser I wasn't covered.

Since when are cellphone warranties non-transferable? That doesn't seem right..

Thing is sometimes carriers are involved apparently. I.e. you take the phone to the carrier and they send it out. Which is pointless imo. Then again I guess its easier that way for the phone to be sent to the manufacturer. Samsung should open up more stores sooner or later to match with that of Apple's warranty service. Just take the phone into the store and voila.

Not just their policy, one example of their success is; they were opening up stores at the perfect time when people were becoming more dependant on staying connected, but public hotspots were in their infancy. I remember when their stores started showing up in malls people were going there just to use free internet. People still do. I'm sure many of those people ended up going with Apple products when they otherwise would've ignored them. And I don't blame them, Apple's product presentation is unrivalled in the retail sector.

They usually come with a non-transferable, one-year warranty.
