I believe a 1080p resolution on a 4.6 inch device will work out to 450 ppi which is indistinguishable by the naked eye. Apple terms their display "retina" at 326 ppi because it's the max that can be viewable -- anything above won't make a difference. Thus, a 1080p screen won't make a difference at all besides being able to claim it for bragging rights.
Being better able to read text on a 720p (Galaxy Nexus) vs. 480p (Captivate) makes total sense as the former has 316 ppi with the latter having 235 ppi.

Pentaband? Hopefully once the quad cores roll out, the Galaxy Nexus will be in the $200s on the used market.
