I bought the above multifunction printer at Future Shop. It seems like a decent deal for an AIO.
I noticed however that when I print or copy when the Samsung is in sleep mode it creates a power surge that my UPS starts to beep. My backup computer reboots itself whenever I print/copy out of sleep mode. I have it connected via USB but someone told me it does not matter whether it is USB or Network.
I have tried another outlet within the same room but the same problem. Has anyone come across this problem?
Too bad it has all the features that are useful to me.![]()

Most laser printers surges when it warms up. Why do you need to connect it to UPS anyways?

you should not connect a printer to a UPS. I think some UPS manuals will say that this is a no-no and could damage the UPS
APC says this:
Recommendations for protecting a laser printer
Question
What is the proper UPS for use with a Laser Printer?
Answer
Due to the large amount of power consumed by these devices, APC does not recommend protecting laser printers with a UPS.
In most cases, surge protection is adequate for laser printers.
If you must use a UPS with a Laser Printer it is important to size your UPS appropriately. APC recommends a Smart-UPS series product that is sized for the maximum power draw of the laser printer as defined by the manufacturer. This is typically a 1500va or larger UPS. Even small laser printers can have very high maximum power draws due to the nature of the technology. We do not recommend the use of Back-UPS products with a laser printer.Last edited by warpdrive; Mar 29th, 2010 at 07:19 PM.

Sorry I don't have the printer connected to the UPS; my computers are connected though. I old printer never caused such a surge, coming out of sleep mode, that causes my old computer to reboot.

No such problem here. But my printer may be on a circuit different from most of the other equipment (same room, but i think more than one circuit runs through it). If I get a chance, I'll see if my watt meter captures the power usage during the surge.

warmup on laser prints takes a lot of power. The power draw is obviously causing a dip in voltage thats causing your computer to reset. Possible solutions are
-Have the printer connected to a different circuit.
-Connect the printer to the UPS (kind of a last resort, and not a great idea)
-Change the power supply in your backup computer to something with PFC_______________

Thanks all.
For now I will have to plug it into a socket in another room Hope to find a better solution.
Yes I guess I could have tried NCIX but their return policy was I think only credit. Besides I found a FS gift card in my drawer and found out it was worth $40.
