Sandals Resorts for honeymoon

Hi there,

I am now looking at going to a Sandals Resort for my honeymoon (either that or an Alaskan cruise). We're looking at a two week stay from Aug 7/8 onward.

Can anyone recommend which are the top ones or what their experiences have been? Tripadvisor seems to glow about all of them and I need some more discerning points.

thanks in advance! :)

the cheapest sandals resorts are in cuba. they are not the same quality as the other ones but hicacos in varadero is suppose to be quite good considering the price.

two weeks of vacation at any resort is a very long time. although after a wedding, it might be just the right length.

check out debbiescaribbeanresortreviews.com it's an excellent website and much more indepth than tripadvisor

I don't think they are looking for the cheapest Sandals...

We have stayed at Sandalas Royal Caribean in Montego Bay Sandals Halcon St Lucia. (and Beaches Varadero)

Sandals is awesome.
You can share the restaurants \ amenities at all of them with free shuttles every 30 mins (?) to other resorts in the same locale...

Service is outstanding. When you arrive, they meet u with cold damp face towels and champagne.
Check in is on a comfy sofa, not lining up at a counter.
The grounds are impecably kept, no litter, I thinkt the guest - staff ratio is similar to a cruise ship.
With your room u get a little goody bag with bottles of shampoo, body lotion, bath gel, aloe vera, etc, thats a nice touch,
rather than the 1/4 oz bottles u get at other hotels.

The staff go above and beyond the call of duty and tipping is expressly
forbidden, which makes those special moments,
like a waiter singing to you at
dinner, even more special since they're not expecting a $5 tip.

The food is very good, many international brands of booze - its one of the
ony resorts we've been to that has Frangelico - pretty rare in Carribean.

All watersports are operational (sailboards, water trikes, sailboats) there splenty of snorkel gear and scuba is free all week too!!

If I had to choose between Jamaica and St Lucia, it sould easily be St Lucia.

They have 3 beautiful resorts (Sandals Regency, halcyon and Sandals Grande) ,
with about 15 restaurants between them and unlimited golf.

The french restaurant features white glove service, lines, crystal service. Very nice.
There's also a great Japanese restaurnat built on a cliff, over looking the ocean.
Sandals Regency has private villas at the top of a cliff,
and Sandals GRande has rooms with their own pools.

St.Lucia is stunningly beautiful and I really only had one bad thing to
say....the ride from the airport was nauseating....one main road, the cab
drives at top speed (normal in caribbean) and the twists and turns are so
bad, I thought I would puke!

We were there during my wife's b'day so I bought tickets for the helicopter
ride back to the airport - well worth the $, no rollercoaster cab ride and the
views were spectacular.
Nice treat on your Honeymoon and our pilot was a newfie.

Peppy is right, 2 weeks at a resort is a long time,
but with all the choices for activities, meals, beaches, etc at Sandals,
its like 2 weeks at 3 resorts!

When we were in Jamaica, we went shopping for Je
wellery in Mo'Bay. My wife bought a Movado and I bought a case of cigars.

We told them where we were staying and thy delivered the goods to lobby,

and we paid for them there,
no fears about walking around with expensive purchases!

Just a warning....Sandals is the most expensive travel leasson you'll ever
learn...
after Sandals, you'll compare every oither resort to it and they won't measure up.
Here's a few pix of the resorts...

You've got to be a "reort lover" to do this for a honeymoon - there's a lot more creative and romantic ideas* than being caged up for a fortnight...

(*eg: Fly around the world and stop on a beach in the Seychelles - you can go to the Caribbean for your 50th anniversay...)

The carribean is perfect for those who've never been....I have some friends who got married at Sandals Dunns River in OCho Rios and loved it. The wedding is free, they did an awesome job. Their wedding guests stayed at Sandals Ocho Rios (?) and took the shuttle to their wedding at DR.

We'd al;ready been several times, so we opted for the Cycladic Islands in Greece for about $10K , probably cheaper than 2 weeks at Sandals.
To each their own...

Sorry, I've stayed at Atlantis...extraordinary nice place but....

1. Its not all-inclusive. Think about dropping $7US on a beer and $9US on mixed drink. Breakfust buffet is $22US pp. Lots of choice in restaurants but the cheapest I saw was $35 for a veggie stirfry - that was 6 yrs ago.
A collegue of mine just did Atlantis last fall, he said its hasn't changed (price-wise)

2. Cruise ships now docking at Nassau offer tours of Atlantis. So u have 30+ seniors walking around YOUR resort while the tour - op talks on a small megaphone. I know, my parents went on the tour. Nice when you're on your honeymoon and the tours go by 2X a day.

3. Sandals is couples Only. Atlantis is packed with ankle-biters.
