Are Sata DVD drives better than IDE
I may be wrong but as far as I know if your motherboard handles Sata HD then you can use either Sata or IDE DVD drives (using an adapter).
So Would there be any reason to get a Sata dvd burner over an IDE?

Thinner cable. It's very nice having a system without a fat IDE ribbon always getting in the way.

get sata, newer motherboards are only offering 1 ide channel.
I converted all my drives to sata and I find I am getting better burn results under sata than ide.

If you want to put in one burner and dvd-rom, you will have to get one SATA and the other IDE (dvd-rom). You can also get an ide to sata convertor which costs $15.

Technology aside, SATA will only become more and more popular. Unless you can get the IDE version at a significant discount, go for SATA.
And I agree with Amourek. If you 'play around' with your systems all the time, you'll love the SATA cables over the traditional IDE ones.

No kidding...I play around a lot...and all my IDE cables exhibit some sort of damage...even the round IDE bundle, the connection has to be so perfect.
