Please people tell me some great tips how to save effective water on this planet. The water is one of the most important sources on this planet and we need to have this source undercontrolled. I find a really good article about this ecological agenda with title "Save Water Effortlessly". http://juliekinnear.com/blogs/save-w...ortlessly.html
Thanks for your tips or advices!

I know something called a 'sand filter' whgich I've seen on Youtube before. It's a filter you can make out of a 55gal or whatever size container and fill it with sand. It works from if I understand the videos I've seen before much like the filter in an aquarium. As the filter is mature and builds up enough biological (good) bacteria it will eat out the bad stuff as the water filters out the bottom of the container.
You take that filtered water and now treat it to purify it be it with chlorine or bioling it for like 10 mins. From time to time you would just skim off the surface of the top sand layer as it gets clogged up to get the filter working again. Take that clean water and use it for something else like watering plants, washing veggies, etc._______________

Little things, like not running while brushing your teeth still apply. When showering, get soaked, turn off the water, and do your cleaning (ideally with eco-friendly chemical, etc free soap!), then rinse. Likewise for face and shampooing.
Grey water recycling is a great thing too.
Collecting rainwater and using it for watering plants, etc.
To name a few off the top of my head.

An efficient toilet will usually result in huge water savings, some older toilets use 13L per flush or more like 20L for toilets from the 1980s or earlier. Now the standard is 6L and units using less are quite common.

Our sump pit is always filled with water, Ive lately been toying with the idea of pumping it out to use for watering the lawn-when the warmer weather comes.

Wouldn't you need to store it in a barrel or something then use it on demand?

I dunno, I was just thinking of pumping it out on demand. TBH, there is likely way more than 1 barrels worth, and its being "stored" quite well in the water table under the house.

Really just an idea, still working out the details. It just seems like a waste to leave all the water under my house, while flowing city water on top of the lawn.Last edited by stealth; Apr 4th, 2012 at 11:36 AM.

You can attach several barrels in a row. Really good idea to save the water but also to help rain go through the earth before it hits our lakes and streams (much better than running down pavement and picking up toxins.) www.RainBarrel.ca still sells used ones cheap.

Thats about all you can hope for....There really isnt a water shortage in this country, and all the best water savings we do here has zero impact on water shortages and droughts on other continents, in the same way that they cant really save up sunlight to help us Canadians get through our long cold winters

I guess we really dont need a humongous effort to cut down on water consumption. Little things like reusing of grey water can be of great help. But of course it can be more effective if we practice these little things everyday.
