Islay mist seems to be priced less than its worth.

For comparisons, it would be best to have small samples of the whiskies side by side with water and maybe water crackers.

With eating food and sampling something else, you might not get what you want. It will change your perception of the second whisky which isn't necessarily bad, but could be interesting

and we keep buying Collingwood - pretty simple, good, and at just over $30, totally affordable - http://www.lcbo.com/lcbo/product/collin ... VPRmtPyvVo
Bought a bottle of Collingwood and tried it, ugh.. Tastes so synthetic, a combination of medicinal and too much added sugar.

I'll finish the bottle but it'll be my only one and last one.

More like "The Kelly's Fortified Wine of blended whiskies!" :|

Ya wasn't a big fan of the normal offering, but the 21 Year old is quite nice. It has been sold out for sometime and doubt it will be coming back. Wish I had bought an extra few bottles to store, as it was very reasonable. (Under $60 a bottle if I remember correctly.)

Absolutely. If you couldn't then there would be no point to whisky tastings. Just start with a more mild flavour as anything heavy or with significant peat may affect the taste of some to follow.

Also, you should have something to eat prior to and during to help keep the palate clean. Water can help, but less so with clearing the palate and more so for adding a few drops to the whisky you're tasting (because that's how you taste whisky).

Teachers is good. Actually better than whyte and mackay. But still can't match islay mist.
Islay mist seems to be best bang for the buck. They only make 750 ml bottles though

Hibiki Harmony is back in stock this week at SAQ after a considerable absence. I bought one bottle since I missed the boat on their last shipment but haven't opened it yet.

The selection of Japanese whisky is limited with SAQ but, from what I've heard with discussions with people who went to Japan and drank of lots of their whiskies, sakes, umeshus and the likes, Hibiki Harmony is actually better than the Yamazaki 12, which you cannot find anywhere anymore
