errr
is this deal good or bad?
I am going on a trip and i wanted to pick up the Canon. It's $50 if I drop it .. or scratch it... i wont' be losing any sleep.
I think it can take decent family pictures. I am not sure. Should I buy the Canon or the $60 Kodak. The M80 kodak has HD and a bigger screen and is slim

the canon will take better photos no question, though you better take lots of AA batteries.. Kodak cameras are junk.

I would totally have to disagree.
Most Canons are on average better than Kodak's
Not all Kodak's are junk.
The A490 is an entry level camera with digic III processing, and cheap lens. It is years older than the M580.
The M580 has 8x optical and decent lens and is a newer model.
I would go for the Kodak M580 in this instance.

Good review of the M580 here:
http://www.steves-digicams.com/camer...lusion-74.html
The review was from June 2010, and the price then was $200. For $60, looks pretty decent if you are doing straight forward point and shoot stuff.
"Bottom Line - The Kodak EasyShare M580 is an incredibly easy to use, very versatile digicam featuring a 14-Megapixel imaging sensor, 8x optical zoom lens, Smart Capture automatic scene selection and 720p HD video capture. Shooting in Smart Capture mode produced excellent quality images, better than the images that we captured in Program mode. We did see some noise in our images, but we have seen this same level of noise in all of the 14-Megapixel digicams that we have tested recently. With a MSRP of US $199.95, this is an excellent camera that is leading the way with features at this price."

hm..
i was thinking the same thing. for $60 i could use this for 1.5-2 years and I would be very happy.
Although I like Canon as a brand better.
I dont' want to carry my $400 Galaxy Nexus phone on a beach to take pictures.
I added pictures for PROOF, but i am not sure if you can view them. "picture of it or it never happened!!!" ahhhhhhhh

Normally canon is better, but this is just a rebadged A480, and if sand is in the future, is more susceptible to sand (there are larger spaces in the lens assembly) and the gear is prone to breaking.
