Does this mean I have to create a NEW account through the referral link even though I already have an account?
If so, can you combine the two accounts afterward then?

No, as long as you don't sign up your card until you get a link from someone. You can't combine accounts (and its against their tos to have more then 1 card per person.). Points can be moved between accounts. Risk would appear to be low, but there are a few reports of SDM taking points back from a few people who were doing improper things.

Thank you very much! I can't believe someone would run with the points. That's worse than a hoarder!
Anyway, I didn't know you could transfer points - that's pretty cool. How exactly does that work without giving people personal info?
Is there a thread where you can ask to join a group, or is this the place for this time around?
Lastly, who are the trustworthy/reliable leaders/group members (and who was the untrustworthy one)?
Edit: I'm an idiot, I signed up thinking you meant I needed to get a referral link before signing up for the group... am I screwed now?

All you need is an SDM number to transfer points
It always gets treated as some sort of race to join a group/recruit people, but there is lots of time, no one ever gets left out.
this is the thread to connect with groups .
Those of us who lead last time will offer the spots to previous group members. Some won't be around or want to shop, so those spots will be offered to new people between now and the shopping day. Previous leaders and high post count/veteran rfders should be safe. The id that ran with the points never posted again...of course there is no way to know if they are with other name(s).
Just use common sense and its unlikely there will be a problem. There were also a couple of cases where the group leader didn't shop so no bonus points were awarded, so that risk is there. You are guaranteed 5,000 points, the other 4545 are very likely but not a guarantee.
}

Yes
sorry

Seem to remember chococrazy and cyanade (sp?) were the people involved with organizing the SDM optimum points promotions? Has that changed? Please update.

cyanne and chocrazy don't organize this on rfd anymore. Its still worked with shockingly few problems considering the number of people involved and there being no central organization.
If you signed up already you can refer people yes._______________
