SDM - Tell A Friend Event - April 5 & 6th

SIGNUP INSTRUCTIONS - we are no longer accepting email signups as of April 4, 12:09 AM EST!!! Please log into MSN Messenger and add the following to your contacts list:

rfdsdmgroups@hotmail.com

When you are added, you must message the admin the following:

1. Will you 100% shop April 5th or April 6th?
2. RFD user name
2. Shoppers Optimum card (last nine digits)
3. Email address
4. MSN Messenger address

Once you message, you'll be messaged the link on a first to message, first served basis. Once we confirm you are at your computer, you must have at least 20 minutes consecutively. If we respond to your signup message on MSN and you do not respond within 15 minutes, we will move on to the next person but will notify you in the chat window.


There is an SDM event on April 5th and 6th! If you register, you will obtain 5,000 Optimum points if you spend $20 or more at Shoppers or Pharmaprix. (Note the exclusions, listed below).

This is also a referral event, which has changed from the way it used to be structured, but still can be organized. Basically, each referral nets someone an additional 5,000 points, up to a maximum of 50,000 (e.g. 10 referrals).

So what will you get from joining this? If everyone in your group buys $20 or more, you will receive 5,000 points from Optimum, plus 4,545 points from your group leader (50,000 points / 11).

PLEASE DON'T JOIN IF YOU WON'T SHOP. If you discover between now and then that you won't be able to shop, please email sdm@spendingsmarts.com and let us know so we can let someone else in the group take your place. Note that when you do this, you are no longer considered a member of the group.

The fine print: *Points are issued according to the net pretax purchase total of eligible products after discounts and redemptions and before taxes using a valid Shoppers Optimum Card®. Excludes prescriptions, products that contain codeine, tobacco products (where applicable), other Shoppers Optimum Bonus Points™, stamps, lottery tickets, event tickets, transit tickets and passes, electronic gift cards, Life Experiences® packages, pre-paid phone cards and Shoppers Home Health Care® locations. Offer applies to photofinishing services that are picked up and paid for on Saturday April 5 or Sunday April 6, 2008. Not to be used in conjunction with any other Shoppers Optimum Points® promotions or offers. A maximum of 5,000 points will be awarded to the registrant that shops and makes a purchase of $20 or more on Saturday April 5 or Sunday April 6, 2008. An additional 5,000 points will be awarded to the registrant for each direct referral that shops and makes a purchase of $20 or more on Saturday April 5 or Sunday April 6, 2008 to a maximum of 50,000 points for ten (10) direct referrals. A maximum of 55,000 points will be awarded per registrant. Both the registrant and referral must register online before shopping and spending $20 or more at Shoppers Drug Mart on Saturday April 5 or Sunday April 6, 2008 in order to receive the bonus points. The additional points will be awarded to the registrant's account by April 11, 2008.


Note that it is more advantageous to sign up family using your own referral rather than making them part of the chain.

Let's say you have two cards (yours, and your spouse's).

Signing both up using the group method:
- Each card receives 9,545 points = 19,090 points total (this will be less if someone in your group doesn't shop)

Signing one up using the group method, and then referring the 2nd card yourself:
- Card that's part of the RFD group = 9,545 + 5,000 points for referring card outside of group = 14,545
- 2nd card that's outside of group = 5,000
- total is 19,545 (455 more per card you register - plus if someone in your group doesn't shop, this only affects one card, and not all of them!).

***IF you have friends/family cards that you want to register for the event, FOLLOW the instructions in www.spendingsmarts.com/sdm/tut after you register your first card from your group leader's referral link!!!!

Important things to note:

1. You MUST be able to shop on either April 5th or April 6th!!!!

2. 4,545 referral points are NOT guaranteed. That being said, we expect everyone that signed up to shop!!!!!

3. You will ONLY be allowed to sign up one card per group. The reason why... it is more advantageous to register these extra cards yourself!!!!

4. If after signing up, you realize you cannot shop or participate, please email us to let us know and we can assign someone else to your group in your stead. ***If you're signing up friends or family, you should only sign up the ones that you will know for SURE will shop. It will mean less points for you if you sign up a friend that does not end up shopping.

5. If you have privacy issues with giving us your Optimum card number, please do not join us this time around. Note that no one (other than chococrazy, Cyanne or 3weddings if we need it!) will ask you for your password. If anyone does, please let us know right away.

6. You will HAVE to retain your SDM receipt to prove that you shopped. You will also be responsible to obtain the receipt of your friends/family. If the group leader does not receive the maximum number of points (meaning that someone did not shop) you will HAVE to submit/email this receipt to them as proof before your points will be transferred! No receipt = no points.

Finally, remember that you must register AND email your group leader telling them that you have registered within 24 hours of receiving the email. IF 24 hours has passed and you have not registered OR you have not emailed to say that you have registered, you will be BYPASSED and someone else will be added to take your place. NOTE if you register, and do not email, you're out of luck.

What I would suggest people do is:

1. Find your Shoppers Optimum card. Yes, you must have it PHYSICALLY with you to join the chain. The cashiers will not key in your card number if you don't have the card.

2. Check your balance. Make sure that you can log into the site - if you can't, you won't be able to sign up when we give you your signup link.
