1" filters are garbage no matter what you use.
Get an HVAC guy to put in a 5" box then pop in a 3M filter (HEPA or not up to you) those will typically last up to a year or more and actually can... -

Easiest thing todo is get plenum rated CAT6 and run it through the cold air return.
Otherwise you will need stud finders to help locate fire blocks and the top and bottom plates of the walls.... -
