9. Is the Physio Logic® Automatic Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor as accurate as the upper arm models?

Yes. All blood pressure measurements determined by Physio Logic® are equivalent to those obtained by a trained observer using cuff / stethoscope auscultation method, within limits prescribed by the American National Standard for Electronic or Automatic Sphygmomanometers (ANSI / AAMI SP-10).

Specifically, the Physio Logic® Automatic Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor features step valve technology, which uses an electronic valve system allowing the monitor to analyze oscillations during measurement and adjust cuff pressure accordingly. Adjustments in pressure occur in steps and result in an audible ticking as the valve releases air from the cuff. This allows the monitor to analyze oscillations and evaluate then for accuracy.

A lot of these cuff bp monitors are not accurate, take it as a rough estimate only.

Also, make sure your arm is positioned near heart level. If you don't, you get even more inaccurate results.

Here are a list of bp monitors recommended by Canadian drs.
