TORONTO — Sears Canada Inc. is recalling Eddie Bauer and Safety 1st child car seats distributed by a division of Dorel Industries, citing a potential safety hazard as the centre-front adjuster strap can loosen.

No injuries have been reported, Dorel said Tuesday.

The Sears recall follows Transport Canada’s warning and recall Sept. 2 about more than 314,000 car seats sold in Canada between November 2003 and December 2005. The brands included Eddie Bauer and Safety 1st.

Some of the seats were sold at Sears Canada department stores, through the Sears Canada catalogue and online at between June 2004 to September 2007, the company said in a release.

Sears said it will post signs in all of its department stores to advise customers of the recall.

Customers are asked to contact Dorel Distribution Canada at 1-800-219-0540 or visit the firm’s website at, or e-mail aopublicnotice(at) to arrange delivery of a free repair kit to replace the adjuster strap.

The affected models sold for $149.99 to $229.99 under the names Eddie Bauer, Laurel Hurst, Mercer Elite, Lakemont Elite, Safety y 1st Enspira and Intera.
