Sears: Canon Powershot S3 IS $314.94
Well, I searched high and low for a deal on the A710 IS since it's discontinued now. Got nothing better than $350 at BB. Then went to the Fairview mall sears to try my luck. Lo and behold, the S3 IS was on sale there for $314.94 down from $399.94. That's hotter than the FS deal a few days back. I picked up the last new in the box one but the demo one is still on sale. You might get even more of a discount if you try.
Enjoy.

Why is the A710 IS discontinued? Wasn't it a new camera, 6X optical zoom lens, image stabilization, 7MP? I don't see anything similar to it.

Yeah, the only closes thing is the A570IS but it only has 4X zoom. Supposedly it uses the smaller sensor than the A710 so there's more noise on it's 7MP sensor. It does have image stabilization though but the shot to shot times a little slow since it uses 2 AA batteries.

Just checked my local Sears and they are on for $350, not $315. I would have grabbed one if I could get it for $315. I think I may wait to see if it drops any further.

Glad to see you found your S3. It is a beautiful camera and well worth the $$.
I would encourage you get some decent batteries for the camera and you will be fine. Here is my suggestion:

By the way, visit the Sears in the morning with the bill and the camera, and if they have a deal, they can give you the difference back. It is a great way of getting an item and not worrying about it being out of stock.
You could even go to Staples and get them to give you a better deal too.

thanks hightech for your earlier pm. I am glad I took the time to search. This camera is amazing. Since I can never afford/justify a dslr, this is probably the best camera I would buy.
And yeah, I got a pack of 8 eneloop batteries for it. I hear great things about them.
Don't think I will bother with trying for a better deal tomorrow or at Staples. Feels like I used up my good karma already.
In fact, I am going to stop checking rfd for a while now that I have gotten the wii and this camera. My piggy bank is empty.

How are you finding the indoor photos with the S3? Could you post some sample photos up? I just wanted to compare with some results that I had with the S5. If anyone has some indoor pictures from mid-afternoon with low-medium lighting that they can post, that would be great.

I don't know why the A710 is discontinued. That's what I had been told by FS, BB & Henry's. They speculate because it didn't sell that well being so expensive. The A570 uses the same sensor I believe and would be much more competitive at that price point.
I haven't done much indoor stuff. I most spent time doing outdoor and macro. And it wouldn't be a fair comparison since I am not a very good photographer and am just getting used to this. Ahzuz's link is pretty good though.
I hope someone manage to get the deal + the $20 coupon. I am happy enough.

A710IS (like S3IS) uses the older DIGIC II image processor while A570IS (like S5IS) uses the new DIGIC III.

There isnt a lot of difference, except for the new face tracking feature and perhaps some speed tweaks.
In fact some users have found the picture quality of the S5 a little worse than S3.
To the S3 Users: What are your preferred settings for indoor/outdoor shots? Any tips and tricks of what works well with this camera and what doesn't?

Got the S3 from FS 16 days ago. Could not find the deal on-line for $314.9. Could anyone scan and post the invoice, I would try to PM FS for the different. Thanks.
By the way, S3 is an excellent camera. I did check out the S5, it has a bigger LCD, better speed and easier navigating among menu. But for $200 different, I am happy with the S3. Your would take better pictures with manual settings, but again you may need a tripod as well.
For someone who wants a compact size camera with great picture quality, try the Nikon Coolpix P5000. It is on sales for $429 at BB the week. (10 Mega Pixels, 3.5 Optical Zoom, 2.5" LCD with Image stabilization)
