Sears US for a TV

I'm thinking about buying a tv at Sears in the States. Are the salesmen negotiable there? It seems they have the lowest prices online at the moment so I don't know if they will move anymore.

I already know about the warranty issues. They have a pretty good price protection going on right now, 60 days instead of 30 for HD tv's - limited time offer.

Nah man, buy it in Canada. It's a hassle to bring the TV here, likely to get damaged!

The worst part at the border is the wait. If figure I'll save about 700 bucks by going south.

Sears has a good policy of taking taking things back if something goes wrong in the first 30 days. The place I would buy from up here wont take the unit back for dead pixels unless it is over x amount. Sears will. Also, I've heard that most electronics break fail due to defects in that time period.

60 days for price protection is awesome. For sure it will go down by then.

I would think the panel is packed pretty good. Just keep it upright.

personally...i would stay in canada...you can get some good boxing week sales.
the hastle of driving there/gas $$/ long traffic waits/ driving ALL the way ack if there is a problem...seems like a pain in the a$$.

I was also looking to buy a tv from sear online. Can it be shipped and picked up in Canada? also can Sear Canada CC be used in the US?

I used to work in the Sears TV department in the US, so what I say is accurate as of 1999. I'm not sure if things have changed, but I doubt it very much.

Yes, but they are on commission. Treat them well, and they will treat you well. Call ahead to the store, be nice with the guy on the end of the phone, and let him know you're driving down from Canada to make the purchase and that if he can do anything to the price, you understand that he gets commission and will give him the sale. Make sure to get his name. Depending on the manager, he may or may not be allowed to offer you a better price. I worked at three different stores, and always had some leeway to adjust pricing as I saw fit, within certain guidelines. You can probably get up to 10% off as a maximum, depending on a lot of factors, which tv is it? is it near a sale date? etc.

No, it can't be shipped to Canada.

Yes, your Sears Canada CC can be used in the US. So can a Sears Puerto Rico card, although I never saw either one when working there. You may have a less intelligent employee, however, who doesn't realize that he can take that card, so they may have to get a manager to approve it. I'm not sure how it works with converting your payment to CDN$ however, so you may want to check that in advance.
