Security clearance and criminal record check
Hello, I don't have any criminal record and I would like to visit an acquaintance who is currently incarcerated in a federal institution.
There is a question on the Visiting Inmate Application Form that asks whether I have any criminal record and I indicate No. I have 2 questions relating to future security clearance and employment
1. Will Correctional Service Canada (CSC) run a criminal record check to confirm my answer?
2. If the answer to 1. is Yes then will future security clearance show CSC run a criminal check against my name and does that give cause for concern for future recruiters/employers? Do they even see that or is it protected by privacy?
Thank you.
P.S: I was debating whether I should post this in the Careers section or Off-topic. Mods feel free to move it to the right area.

I'm not sure about the concrete answer to either of those questions, but a criminal record check is a fairly commonplace procedure for many professional jobs. If they were recorded against your name, then I'd imagine most working people would have several if not dozens of instances of such things occurring on their file. As such, I'm leaning against the notion that a criminal record check itself won't show up on your criminal record. If you have a blank sheet, then it'll remain blank afterwards.
You should call CSC if you want a definitive answer. All I know is that if you don't have a criminal record, then you've got nothing to worry about.

The above poster is correct. Having an institution run a criminal records check on you is absolutely nothing to be concerned about. A LOT of careers require them now even just to apply. Almost all volunteer positions require them as well.

I wouldn't worry - as on poster said a criminal check is pretty standard - any one that volunteers at a school has to have one.
