Selling a car to a Junkyard?

I want to sell my 2001 Acura Integra to the junk yard (brake lines will cost me $600 to fix) , but I have no idea how much they will take it for.

Anything I should be made aware of?

Any negotiation strategies?

Any advice at all would be appreciated (newbie here)

I don't think you can nego with the junk yard, is more like take it or leave it.
They don't really care the condition of your car. They aren't buying it to drive, but for parts and scrap only.

What is everything else in the acura like? I might buy it. Brake lines would set me back probably $100 and thats it. Have the bender and the hydraulic flare tool. KMs, body condition, interior, etc?

Donate it to Kars4Kids

They give you a charitable receipt that will end up being more than what the Junkyard will give you.

Junkyard was giving me $300 for my car

Kars4Kids gave me a charitable receipt for $4200....which becomes $1600 in tax savings.

check it out.

"Your car donation will benefit Kars4Kids, a d/b/a Oorah Charitable Organization, a registered charity dedicated to addressing the educational, emotional and spiritual needs of Jewish children and their families."

Are you sure this is legit? Sounds sketchy because it doesn't indicate how they address their needs by the donation of a car...

It's a pretty big charity in north america.

They sell the cars either through auction houses or to junk yards. I can bet mine definitely went to a junk yard, cause it had more rust on it than colour

First of all, junk yards will barely give any money. They go by curb weight & metal value in the car. Most of the time you will get between 50-300 (less if you get them to tow from you). Call one of them up and find out.

Here are some details about kars4kids - https://www.charitynavigator.org/index. ... rgid=11555
If you google some more you will see that it isn't the greatest charity. I would prefer a donation going to a better cause.

If you go through http://donatecar.ca/ you can pick any registered donation in Canada. You can't negotiate when donating to charity though.

Max you will get from a junk yard is $300 if the car can drive. Less if you tow it there.

Like others mentioned, sell privately or donate it to get a tax receipt.

Are you sure it's not closer to $500?
