Severance packages
Are they mandatory for employers who fire full-time workers?
Also did the auto workers in Oshawa and Whitby get anything in the way of severance packages?

It depends on the jurisdiction (provincial or federal), and the reason the person was let go.

I understand this is included as part of their union contract. As such, layoffs or shutdowns can be fairly costly for the company, but there is no point in assembling vehicles they can not sell.
