Wow, it extends my reach by 18 inches!
I wonder where one would store their toilet paper stick.

I can't believe some dork decided to sell this through an ad to the mass market. This is an aid for the elderly, obese and handicapped that can be bought through any medical supply store.

I am serious, banana leaves ... was my short answer.
In 1700s they had simple toilets too.
Most people would wipe with whatever was attainable. This would range from leaves and moss, to the physical use of ones hand. Spread of diseases was common.
Some people dug a pit in the back garden and erected a wooden building over it with a seat with a large hole in it, when they went to the toilet they sat over the hole. They would cover up the waste by putting some soil, sawdust or ashes on top of it.

Imagine life before toilet paper, and the widespread use of soap. Everything from preparing food to engaging in teh sex would be suspect.
We are so spoiled these days.
edit, wikipedia has lists some interesting alternatives that were historically used, among them; seashells, corn cobs, rocks, and a live goose!!Last edited by c white; Jun 21st, 2009 at 05:02 PM.
