Shaw HD-PVR Retention Type Deal
So I've been wanting to get a Shaw HD-PVR receiver for a while but the $700 (recently dropped to $600) price tag has always been an issue for me. After the success of the recent Shaw Internet deal I decided to call in and see what they could offer me.
I also checked out Bell Expressvu's current offerings and they have an HD-PVR receiver for $299 (after applicable credits on a 1 or 2 year contract):
"Special offer:"
* 50% off an HD PVR Plus - only $299 after credits1,2
* $25 online credit
* $10 Pay Per View credit3

So I called Shaw and chose the "Cancel or discontinue services" option and spoke with a representative. She was kind and offered me the following:
HD-PVR receiver: $348 (regular $598)
Current Programming package: Discount to $39.95 for 6 months (Currently $57.95 per month)
1 Month Free Preview of ALL Channels including HD Specialty channels
I told her I would think about it and call her back. Overall seems like a pretty good deal to me.
Good luck calling in!

The Shaw (Motorola) PVRs are selling for $500 at Futureshop right now. (It's listed as a sale ending Aug 21).
Not much difference in price anymore between them and the Pace PVRs it seems.
Is it worth waiting for Shaw to magically solve their Pace PVR problems, coincidentally once the backlog of motorola boxes is nearly gone?

Just go make friends with a Shaw employee...
They get stuff for 1/2 price, and sometimes less if there's a special going on.
Friend of mine got her HD-PVR for $200.

I guess I'll just walk around downtown Calgary asking people if they work at Shaw. Bound to find a friend sooner or later...

got a similar deal through rentention while calling for that internet deal. My total package with internet and HD Basic dropped to $70/month after the discounts and I was offered the $350 price for the HD PVR but I was given the option to pay that in 6 month's time or return the unit for no charge.

Does anyone know if Shaw has The Score HD or Raptors TV HD? I read a post in late 2007 saying that there isn't but what about now?

Good post! I got a very similar deal about a month ago with the HD PVR costing $299 at the end of 6 months and the Shaw rep threw in Xtreme internet for free for 6 months as well. Holy, is it fast!! I regularly download at 1Mbps and can usually reach about 1.4Mbps from major sites.

For GVR there seems to be technical issues from when Rogers ran the cable system. Victoria initially got the Pace but apaprently due to issues there, they have gone back to the Motorola.
Other places like Chilliwack still have the Pace though.

I'll probably call back tomorrow and try to get them to make it $299 to match the Expressvu offer.
Can't hurt to try.
