For GVA folks.
I live outside Telus TV's offering area (In Coquitlam). I called Telus yesterday to inquire about Telus TV. Nothing in my area. I was going to call shaw and see what they can do, but do you think that not having Telus TV in my area will cause me problems? I can totally see the Shaw CSR saying "Telus TV is not available in your area" therefore we can not do anything about it.

or maybe he should have said "I called the first time and didnt get it.. i'll try again later."
I wasnt mocking the fact that he didnt get it on his first try... i was posting a comment regarding the way he worded his reply.. I'm glad found the little picture funny, that was the intent of my reply._______________

kud0s69,
It doesn't matter if Telus TV is in your area or not. Shaw retention has no idea what area's are TTV enabled. I have a friend that called in and told them about the Telus HD offer and was offered a free HD PVR from Shaw. He is not able to get TTV where he currently lives, but told Shaw that he was switching to Telus for the free HD boxes.

If your calling to cancel your service, Shaw retention isn't going to say "hold on a sec while we verify if Telus TV is in your area" before they offer you a retention deal.
Although Shaw could check the website for an indication of whether Telus TV is available with a particular phone number. The website is not 100% accurate and will not be able to let someone know if they qualify for Telus TV if they have a Shaw digital phone. An area can also be Telus TV ready but not have the information updated on the website.
Shaw Loyalty and Retention is there to try to keep your business, not to try to find loopholes in order to avoid offering retention deals

Wow, I just tried. Called in saying I wanted to cancel. When they asked why, I told them Telus is offering me 2 HD boxes etc. They came back on the phone with the final balance and your service will discontinue on Sept 30. Told them I would be switching all my services over to Telus.
Nothing offered at all. Stayed very nice on the phone, I suck. Phone call lasted all of 3 minutes.
PS - What should I expect now. Nothing? Do they call you with any final offers? I don't mind actually switching, seeing as how they were SOOOOO keen on keeping my business. I guess after almost 20 years TV (the last 10 or so with internet) I will no longer be with Shaw! Kinda in shock that they showed so little care for such a long time customer.Last edited by kud0s69; Aug 20th, 2008 at 02:27 PM.

Like i previously mentioned, i think two things are very important
1) what set of services do you have from Shaw. Having internet and tv is onething but having higher tiers of both services definitely plays to your advantage.
2) I don't think phoning in to cancel has helped anyone. most people here got their PVRs by explaining what they want for Shaw to do.
Again that is just my opinion and it could also just be a CSR who just got engaged to a CSR during her periods

True, I read this thread and I guess people have been pretty vague on what they said to Shaw and had success. I have Shaw full HD, High Speed internet. My bill is 110/mo.
I wonder if it is worth me calling back to see if there are any other offers. The CSR I got seemed very disinterested in keeping me.
When CSR answered, I said "I'm calling to inquire about cancelling my services"
She asked why I was considering cancelling. I replied "Telus offered me a very good deal with 2 HD boxes" Got no speech about Telus being laggy etc.
She then promptly asked if there was anything wrong with the shaw services. I replied "Nope everything was very good".
She asked for a date of when I was considering cancelling "End of September".
She then put me on hold for all of 30 seconds.
Came back with "Your services with shaw will be terminated September 30 and your final balance is 102$".
That was it. Worst part is, I actually never even said I wanted to cancel, but only was inquiring about it. Maybe I just got a rep that did not care at all. You would think they would have maybe offered something to keep me, but to no avail. I mean even a PPV credit! Wow.
Should I maybe call back and ask for a specific department?Last edited by kud0s69; Aug 20th, 2008 at 03:35 PM.

call back, say that it was your son who called in about canceling, and he does not have authorization to do so.

I would suggest phoning the customer retention department and immediately ask to speak to their supervisor and then complain about the CSR's attitude and how disinterested she was in keeping a long term client.that might help. i am sure s/he has left notes on the account. not exactly sure how else can you spin it around.
