I think buying right off the bat was the best. $5/month for 1 year is already $60. Anyways, I heard that the new modems makes it easier for shaw to see how much download/uploads you've done (30gb cap for highspeed).

Shaw Modem - $29.95
Today I purchased the new Motorola Surfboard Modem (SB5101) for $29.95 (Reg: $59.95)
I was told that this promotion started on Friday by Shaw sales rep at the Burnaby location (Lower mainland, BC). You can also get the modem at the Shaw tower in Downtown Vancouver if Burnaby is too far for you.
I've been renting my old Terasen modem for a couple of years, paying an additional $5/month, when I decided to buy my own. The timing couldn't be better.

how much do you save if you use your own modem? it's 45+tax with modem rental so how much is it without the rental? Also, does sympatico also let you own modem?

Aug 6th, 2005 08:14 PM #5I believe you add $5/month for modem rental whether you are getting LiteSpeed or HighSpeed from Shaw. So its better to buy the modem, especially with this promotion.

There are no savings on Lite Speed whether you rent or purchase your modem. For High speed or Extreme you save $5/month. If you have been renting your modem for at least 6 months, you are eligible for the $29.95 modem purchase offer...not for new customers as far as I know...

Hmm, if this pops up at other locations, please post. I'm over on the Island, and could really use this deal... ours is slowly dying, and we've been renting for quite a while now. Back when we started, they didn't mention that we were paying extra not to buy it. D'oh.

You know for the longest time FS & BB have had the promo where you by the modem from em (ends up free), sign up with Shaw and you get the modem price back in a bill credit, first month free, free installation and next 6 at 29.95.

You can purchase your modem for $29.95, if you've rented it for more than 6 months. This, I believe, applies to ALL Shaw services locations. Phone customer service and ask...and yeah they can swap your old modem for a new one...but I like the older ones better.
