[Shoppers Drug Mart] Canon M100 camera w/15-45 lens $399 (+ YMMV 30% PC Optimum)

The Canon M100 with 15-45mm lens is on sale at SDM for $399 (seen in flyer for the Cundles Rd location in Barrie Ontario, but bought at Georgian Mall).

To top it off, I had a PC Optimum offer for 30% PCO at SDM, and it did apply to the purchase.

This is the lowest price price on this camera by quite a bit ($425 @ Amazon, $469 @ BB and Henrys), and the 30% PC Optimum points really sweetened the deal.

A6000 is better
Then don't get the m100 : )

A6000 is a different camera and costs 50% more so it's not a realistic comparo

This is a great deal for a camera that gets stellar reviews.

How do the M100 photos compare to what a Google Pixel or Huawei P20 Pro can take? Seems like both the Pixel and P20 Pro can take better low light photos and is there even any difference in the day time?

Seriously? Like have you looked at pictures taken with phone camera and real camera?

Actually I have and I know that the Pixel 2/3 or the Huawei P20 Pro low light pictures are leaps ahead of what a DSLR or mirrorless can do. And they have easy better automatic light and color correction in the daylight, too. The only reason I can see for getting another DSLR or mirrorless to replace my existing Canon at this point is because of telephoto zoom.

Zoom into your photos; I started to get discouraged seeing my family take seemingly pleasing photos with their iPhones in particular in comparison to my full frame DSLR and Zeiss glass (a99 mark 1 and Zeiss 24mm F2, 50mm f1.4 and G 70-300 SSM II are my main pieces I shoot with); what I never thought about was how the photos were used; once I started blowing the photos up for like poster prints or even just wall papers for my PC desktop, the difference was obvious. The smartphone algorithms are really good at reducing noise at the expense of detail. The smartphone photos will look great being shared on your smartphone screen, but you can see the complete loss of detail once you zoom in. If you are just sharing on social media it won't matter as much - even the major advantages like bokeh are being done well with computational photography on the smartphone. Its at the major expense of detail that you get your amazing smartphone shot. Of course once you reduced all the chroma noise from high ISO on the phone, its like a water color painting when zoomed in- all smudgey. But it won't matter if you are seeing it on a smartphone screen.
