Hoping someone can help explain (we collect but haven't redeemed in a long time). If we have 500K+ points, is it smarter to buy a Switch and get 20x points tomorrow or get $210 off on Saturday? Or even utilize the Senior's Day discount for 20% off? Thanks
The way I see it:
a) 20x points will get you 80K points (assuming Switch will cost $400). Value when converted to PC Optimum points on Feb. 1 (assuming you have 95K points or more on that date) = $143.16.
b) 20% off will save you $80. So value = $80.
c) Redeeming 95K points for $210 off during bonus redemption event will give you an additional $40 over the regular redemption rate of $170 (this is also what they'll be converted to on Feb. 1). So value = $40.

So (a) has the highest value, but also the most out of pocket since you have to spend the entire $400 (+tax) up front and then later get additional stuff for $313.16 (95K points you kept ($170) plus 80K points you get ($143.16)). Redeeming points (c) will have the smallest up front cost $190 (+tax on the entire $400), but you're giving up $313.16 of stuff at a later date to save $210 now. Adding in inflation and interest... I think I'll stop here.

No, that link does not work. Thanks though
I have the app currently on my phone but it seems it was pulled out of the app store. They are probably creating a new app to host all the cards.

is this headphone a good deal?
I bought mine when they were 199 and I really like them, the battery is bar none the best, the only downside I have with them is they shut down if they sense it is 0 degrees or lower so winter walks are mostly a no go for them.

I'll keep going :D

If we look at rough, net costs:
a) $400-$140 = $260
b) $400-$80 = $320
c) $400-$210=$190

and then there's...
d) Redeem $170 during 20x. Will receive 46000 points, valued at roughly $80. Net price of $400-$170-$80=$150
e) Redeem $170 during 20%. Net price of $400-$80-$170 = $150

and if the stars align:
f) Redeem $210 and there's a 20x coupon. Will receive 38000 points, which if redeemed immediately after is $75. Net price of $400-$210-$75=$115

Adding in credit card cashback/points... I think I'll stop here :D

When given enough time, all threads on RFD can and will go off on a tangent.

Yeah, just keep in mind that in (a) and (b) 0 points were used, while in (c) (and d, e, f) 95K points were used up.

Hi ,

So can someone confirm:

I have 73394 optimum pts= Points value at 116 at shoppers
If I spend 50k and get back $105, I would have 23394 points left valuing at $31 dollars.

So if I spend my points, I would have $136 at the end.
Whereas if I don’t spend anything, I would have $124 worth of pc points.
Is this correct? I guess it wouldn’t be that big of a difference, only around $12 gained?

... the points in (a) were used at a future date in order to offset the cost by $140 ...

You are forgetting tax which is significant for most. (using 13% tax which is average unless you live in god's country (AB))

If we look at rough, net costs:
a) $400-$140 = $260 including tax**452. Savings = 0 and $140 worth of points
b) $400-$80 = $320 including tax**361. Savings =$80
c) $400-$210=$190 including tax**262. Saving = $40 over regular redemption

The best scenarios under perfect conditions are (unless my math is wrong, and it also is based on todays current earning program. After Feb 1 these numbers will change):

A) Seniors day + stack 20x coupon - this is the best
B) Seniors day + redeem 95k for 170 - this is the easiest to capitalize on
C) 20X coupon
D) Seniors Day
E) Mega Redemption

Assuming you have 500k ($895) in points and $500 to spend and then used the balance to max out your points redemption at a future date it would be like this. This also assumes you will get $80off on seniors day. Technically max is $50 but is rarely enforced.
Eg.
A)$400-$140 = $260 including tax**$452 + 80k points earned = 580k points ($1038) and $48 in cash left over which you wisely spend on no tax items at another time with a 20X coupon. = 9600 points = 589.6k points ($1055 value) + switch(452) + $48 of product =1555 = total savings $160
B) see below
C) $400-$210=$190 including tax**262. = 500k-95k redeemed =405k($725) and 238 in cash left over which you wisely spend on no tax items at another time with a 20X coupon = 47600 points = 452.6k points (810 ) + switch(452) + $238product = 1500 = total savings $105

B)$400-$80 = $320 including tax **361. = 500k+3.2k earned=503.2k points ($900) and 139 in cash left over which you wisely spend on no tax items at another time with a 20X coupon = 27800 points = 531k ($950) + switch(452) + 139product = 1541 = total savings of $146
***BUT if you redeem points on seniors day and then spend that 170 in the future maximizing 20x then your total savings would be approx $205
if you can use a 20x on a seniors day you would save a total of $260

EDIT: I am missing the regular points earned on some scenarios, but they do not make a big enough difference to change the outcomes.

the only problem is i could hardly find anything worth 210 to redeem. the electronics are mostly junk or no deal as usual, not a gamer - no idea on xbox tho.
