So I am sitting at 167320 points right now; if I don't do anything, and wait for Feb 1st, I'd get $299.42 worth of points.
If I take advantage of this deal, I'd drop down to 72320 points, which would net me $210 in merchandise, and convert to $122.94 worth of points, totalling to $332.94.

This means in my case, it is worthwhile to spend the points now, even though the points will convert at a lower rate in Feb.

Do some math to see if it makes sense before you jump!

Where did you get the conversion rate that you will get on Feb 1st?

Yikes....hard to find what to spend 210$ on... :(
WTH is with SDM and electronics, every time I WANT to spend points I find myself struggling to find anything to indulge on.

So please keep up the excellent tradition on RFD and post your findings...I find that it always helps me decide. Now, finding an item at my store...that's another thing.
To be or not to be...where is the question?

You have to spend 170$ before taxes. The 40$ extra are in points to be received later.
I believe you are incorrect. If I have understood correctly, the previous promotion was as you describe. But this "super" promotion is $210 value in exchange for 95K points.

I am currently sitting at 197K points. Not sure how much it will be converted after February 1. Is it a good deal to take the 95K point for $210?
According to this site, your points will be worth $352.53.

It depends a lot on what you buy because $300 at RCSS might get you more than $330 at SDM. Of course for some items, they will be priced the same so in those cases it might make more sense to spend points now. Also the last few years, rcss (or loblaw/city market) has done spend 150k get 30k back, which basically makes that $300 value jump to $360 if you wait till a redemption event. Again everything depends on your spending habits and what you plan on buying. Most of the electronics from the flyer are regular priced meaning odds are you might find a better deal with just regular redemption (and the item on sale).

Basically you are right in the fact you should do some math before writing off the deal but also do a lot of math before buying in. The other thing to remember is rcss does price match (sdm doesnt) so that again could alter the calculations of how far your points go toward products.

If I were a high school math teacher, I'd somehow integrate optimum calculations into all my tests and quizzes lol
When given enough time, all threads on RFD can and will go off on a tangent.

I would probably redeem 95k points for the $210 value and then convert the reaming points over to the PC points. 102K PC points would work to be $182.53 plus the $210 which is $390.53 as opposed to having all your points converted which only nets you $352.53.

It all depends on what you want to get. I find spending $210 at shoppers quite difficult especially if you already own an Xbox and PS4. The perk with the PC points is that you can use them towards groceries and not just limited to a single store. Also, Loblaws and RCSS tend to do No tax events quite often which can help to make the difference even smaller.
