Hiyas,
My case is pretty noisy these days. My 80mm fan is attached but I think half of my noise is because of my inappropriate grill on my case.
I have taken a pic to show what it looks like
Should I modify it to allow better and less noisy air flow?

Cut that out for sure. Your fan, and all axial fans alike, will work at like 1% efficiency with a grill like that.

Get a bi-metal hole saw and a fine file and you should be set. Then again you could just go out and buy a case with a fan side mount... bi-metal hole saws are quite expensive so a new case may cost just as much.

Dec 29th, 2005 11:47 AM #6If you want to make it decent looking and you're willing to spend some money ( unless you have them or know somebody who has ), use a bimetal hole saw ( they sell them in set or single )and drill. Dremel and the likes will work as well but hole saws are the easiest to use.

remove the fan and connect it to the back of the case, there should be space for it.

Do you think you need the fan on the side of the case? Most non-overclocked cases do not need too many fans.
Do you have a fan pulling air in the front and pushing air out the back? If so, that is all you need. Try putting rubber grommets in the mounting holes to reduce vibration.

If your temps are fine, I wouldn't even bother with the side fan.
