Not gonna happen for me though, because my nightclubbing phase is long over, so I guess it's moot.
You do bring up extremely valid and justified points though.
Hmm, how about a cheap wedding? These are getting more and more commonplace. The economic downturn hit people hard, and people my age (late 20s) seem to be eschewing the lavish festive wedding with all of the opulent dress to go with it in favour of a simple civil ceremony or backyard wedding where the groom somewhat shockingly doesn't even wear a tie, let alone a jacket. Apparently it's a faux pas to out-dress the groom on his special day, but heck, that doesn't give me the excuse to show up in a t-shirt... I could potentially wear a cheap suit which wouldn't really threaten to out-dress him, while still looking good enough to catch the eye of the sexy bridesmaids. Thoughts?
As an aside, I don't necessarily believe in weddings, but if I ever do wed, I am damn well wearing my proper suit with tie at minimum on the formality scale. No frickin' cheap shirt and slacks for me.
Haha, I am past my clubbing phase too, so I didn't really think of that, but I am sure that could be an ok idea in many clubs. Probably not in a higher class place with older people, but probably more than fine to pick up some drunk university girls. I certainly wouldn't want to wear my only nice suit into a club, that is for sure.
For an event where I had to dress a bit down, I would just wear something other than a suit rather than wear a cheap looking suit. I have never really heard about people worrying about "out-dressing" a groom though. I have certainly heard lots of rules about not upstaging the bride, but I don't know how or why a groom would be upset about someone wearing a suit to their wedding. You would probably look really out of place if you came in a tux when everyone else was wearing suits, but I don't think anyone would be mad at you.

I suddenly have an insatiable urge to troll/crash a cheap backyard/civil ceremony wedding in full morning dress, complete with pocketwatch connected to my waistcoat, the tallest top hat I can find, and the mandatory monocle.

I am in need of a "beater suit" for some entry level job interviews and for the odd social activity that requires one (will probably wear it for the first 2 years of law school as well). I don't mind buying a proper bespoke suit from a tailor but I don't really need one right now (and don't want to spend $2-3k a few years down the road if my measurements change). My budget is up to $700 but not quite sure if M2M is the way to go. I keep hearing bad things on the style forum about IndoChino/ModernTailor/etc. and not sure if it is just exaggerations or not. Evidently a $400-500 isn't going to fit like a bespoke suit and I am alright with that but I do want a suit that fits and looks good. It is nice to see that they fit some of you in this thread quite well though.
Currently choosing between Modern Tailor (leaning towards them as I think it is pretty unanimous that they make great shirts) and IndoChino. Modern Tailor doesn't have a tailoring credit though and that is something I will likely be needing. I do like IndoChino's policy and it seems like less of a risk. Suggestions on which one to go with?
The alternative I was thinking was to buy a Hugo Boss OTR suit and get it tailored locally, although I am not sure if it will fit as well as a M2M suit ($700 from their American website):
http://store-us.hugoboss.com/mens-su...D021_Dark-Grey
I am probably going to see if the Bay has any of the suits on Hugo Boss' website in stock and try it on to gauge my fit before I buy it (then get it tailored locally when it arrives).
Edit: Ah dang, just read up that HB suits are not worth the money. How about Brooks Brothers?

From my personal experience, alterations can get expensive if you need more than just the sides taken in and sleeves shortened/lengthened. Again it depends on what your body type is compare to the generic sizes from OTR suits.
It's a bad idea to buy suits online unless you've tried it on before and know the sizing of that particular brand. I find that there are sizing variations between brands and it's always best to try it on before you buy any OTR stuff.
$700 OTR suit plus cost of alteration is not far off from a full canvas MTM suit from say IM-Label.
And you can't just plainly compare brands, each brand has variation of suit quality judging by the difference in price. Brooks Brothers have cheap ($600) to expensive ($1800) suits too just like any brand name out there.

I fully concur with what Mebius is saying. It's already about $25 just to get the sides taken in, and depending on what else, it gets really expensive. Getting an OTR suit online can be a nightmare, a 36R from Boss might different from a 36R from Zenga; the cut, sleeve length, everything..
I think if your budget is $700, then go to IM Label. You get a great quality suit, canvassed, great selection of fabrics, etc. A legit M2M suit, not the whole "self-measure" online M2M dealio. No point in going designer for the most part, as you pay a huge mark up for the name. Some brands like Zenga are known for their fabrics (hence the high price), but some M2M places carry Zenga fabric, and so on.
EDIT: Oh, and if you're going to use the suit for social events, interviews, etc. Aim for a standard navy or a slightly brighter gray; stay away from patterns for your first suit. This will make it much more versatile, you can instantly dress the jacket up or down by switching your pants and shirt. Good luck!

I have an appointment with IM-Label tomorrow and they asked me to bring in my suit so they can better see how I want to be fitted. Do they expect me to be wearing it or just bringing it in is good enough?

It's up to you, but you can change into it there; It's not a problem. I just brought it in so I could wear what I want while driving.

I've been checking out men's fashion lately and I found out my suit from high school is horridly oversized (I'm very skinny and 6'3). I'm looking to buy a new suit for my business school events (networking and club/society activities) and job interviews that require business formal attire. Unfortunately I don't have much money right now, to the point that I can't afford to get those very reasonably priced IM-Label MTM suits. So I was checking online and I found that suits from Express right now are on sale and are definitely in my range (less than $500 but aiming for 300)

I'd really much rather get a Navy suit because all the other students wear black and I want to stand out at these events, it's not as harsh, and it's more versatile. Unfortunately I can't really find anything quite as cheap. I know that in suits, you really do pay for quality but I need something to make me not look like a potato sack for the next 5 months until I start my co-op placement in the Winter.
I just want to know if anyone has had any experience with express suits. Thoughts and opinions will be great. I know they opened up in Toronto only recently. Saw those big ads at Bloore and Yonge station.
I know that I will need to get it tailored too. I doubt I can find any suit that will fit me well off the rack. Aiming for good shoulder padding, sleeve length, and... how low the waist goes.

A lot of places are having end of season sales. I was at Yorkdale and saw a ZZenga suit at Holts for $399 (further marked down). Go shop around at Harry's, Holts, and you might strike gold!

Look into getting it altered. Might be cheaper than buying new suit especially when you're on a budget.

Measurement by tailor
Thanks for all the valuable content guys!
How do you guys ask a tailor to measure you? I need some help with the measurement requirements for indochino and I'm not sure how to approach a tailor.
Do you tell them it's for an online order? Do you act as if you will buy from them? Or do they charge for measurements? Sorry for the noob question.
P.s. any one know any good tailors for measurements in Vancouver?

Couldn't use also just use the F21 jacket as a blazer for business casual situations?

That's a good idea. I should try it.
I did manage to wear both the pants and jacket (along with Indochino shirt) for a dressed-up dinner event. Even though the room was air-conditioned, I was starting to sweat balls toward the end of the evening. Damn you, polyester blend.
